I’m certain I installed the full auto open close kit in the time you did the soft close but still good to see what issues people come across & how they were resolved. Keep the mods coming. 👍

Oh 100%, I’d say I did 80% of what a full kit will do already lol! Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks for the video. I believe Satonic recommends removing the U-shaped plastic that is rubbing the closing mechanism so you don't need the washer spacers.
@kelvindownunder Жыл бұрын
The instructions we got didn’t say that actually. But we actually removed and considered removing the plastic during our many tests to resolve the problem. Only issue is that, the plastic is an actually a guiding piece of plastic to divert metal onto the latch. What we found is that after we remove the plastic, it exposures rough edges metal underneath basically makes it metal on metal when ever u close the frunk, and if u close it hard, the side of the top hook also hit the metal guide (with no plastic) as well and very quickly it makes a scratch on the top hook and exposes bear metal. Which is why we kept it back on - mainly to protect the top hook. Good call out though because we did initially remove that ourselves and checked instructions again. And of coz removing would have solved our problem. But Daniel was concerned about potential rust if we let it hit like that. Fun fact, instructions didn’t even have hepa filter 😅

What type and size of washer did you guys use? Trying to decide whether to use the washers or remove the plastic part during installation.
@kelvindownunder Жыл бұрын
Just a generic ikea one. But if you want simplicity just take the plastic out. It’d work straight away. We just concerned about the metal hitting metal. Otherwise any small generic washer will do. 1cm wide 3mm hole.

Thank you - this video is loads better than the Satonic one. I just wish I discovered this before ordering so I could have used your code!

Thank you! Appreciate it! I appreciated the positive feedback, I actually did the video coz of the exact reason you said, I can’t find a decent video anywhere myself!

Mine came with a bolt and a nut to mount the motor just below that ground point. Basically mine is in the same place yours is, but it's bolted to the hole instead of the zip ties going through it.
@kelvindownunder Жыл бұрын
Our one had a bolt but it was too skinny so needed the nut but didn’t come with one, and it was super tight they all the cables were bending so we just decided to tie it up. The other option was to undo the hold per instruction which we didn’t wanna do. But honestly the instructions weren’t great coz it didn’t even have the hepa filter in the instructions!

Nice video guys! I like the trouble shooting part as well. Also Satonic claims the soft frunk close will auto close after 5 minutes due to accidental opening. Mine does not auto close after 5 minutes. Did you guys ever come across this problem?

@@tonec- haven’t come across that actually. One thing to test out. Never done it before yet lol

Not necessary to take out the hepa filter , just flip the rubber flap

We tried but didn’t quite work for mine. I wonder if it’s model dependant

How is it holding up after a couple of months? I use the frunk multiple times a day and this would make things so much easier.

Honestly working very well still no issues at all and no signs of any issues.

@@kelvindownunder well done. Looking forward to getting my new 3 and adding some things. Don’t know about the self closing frunk though. I’ve probably only opened my S frunk about 10 times since I’ve had it. (If that). But I’ll definitely add mud flaps, and mats if the ones it comes with are NG, And most importantly, the “heads-up “ display that does CarPlay and Waze etc, when it’s released. Probably some inserts for the centre console too

Is this better than the one from Hansshow and Teslasy?

Oh definitely. If you try google how the parts look. The Satonic one even looks more solid. Overall Satonic has better feedback and reviews as a brand.

I think I prefer this kit over the Full open and Closure kit, I heard horror stories of the Frunk flying open at speed and being forced back cracking the windshield on both sides. I don't want that happening.
@kelvindownunder10 ай бұрын
Exact reason why I didn’t want a full kit myself. Also there’s a risk of bricking the frunk with the full kit, heard so many stories!
@HeroDefi10 ай бұрын
Is there a way we can get it to close softly?
@kelvindownunder10 ай бұрын
This kit does that?

A concern I have is whether there a safety feature that allows manual release of the closing mechanism should it get stuck or break. Does the inherent manual force of the opening hood cause the Satonic locking mechanism to unlatch? If so, then that would be the safety feature.
@kelvindownunder Жыл бұрын
I don’t believe the mechanism blocks the release as long as the latch returns as it’s a shape latch so in theory it won’t stop u from releasing even if there’s no power.
@adrian8426 Жыл бұрын
@@kelvindownunder What if the motor dies/sticks suddenly while latching? I don't see a manual override for the motor in case it freezes during the locking procedure.
@kelvindownunder Жыл бұрын
The latch technically stays open thanks to the spring. So if the motor power gets cut. The spring just pulls the latch open again. I am going to assume the motor is one of those one way motors where it spins only when power is applied in this case. Coz when we played with it before install, the clamp essentially just kicks back out the moment power is cut.

This is a notorious issue with these frunk units. People have tons of videos on these breaking and locking shut. Some have even allowed the frunk lid to open while driving
@kelvindownunder11 ай бұрын
I don’t think this can release frunk at all as it does not play with control module. Unlike those power frunk kit. This is very passive and doesn’t touch the car computer so that’s a plus. But I hear you.

How has this held up?

My mates one just few months old working perfectly. The other one I did 2 years back also going well without skipping a beat. I guess it helps this taps to power directly and won’t be impacted by updates.
