Thank you. Most people explain but don’t show it. The problem is you have to guess each statement. You are the only one I found that cut out the long parts but kept what we (as people doing it) care about!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I finished trimming out my plain island yesterday and am getting ready to paint. This was my FIRST TIME using a miter saw and nail gun! I could not have done it without your video. There are many similar tutorials on youtube but I found yours the most helpful. The part about how to wrap around to fit under the toe kick was the best!

Thanks to this awesome video - which I copied beginning to end - I now have the coolest island in the neighborhood. It looks amazing! Plus nail guns are fun. My painter showed up while I was still working on it, he was impressed too. I'm no carpenter, so the wood putty saved the day with the gaps at the corners. Thank you so much for your detailed instructions, this really helped me out!

This is super super helpful! Thank you for being so detailed. Question for you about the 1x4 lumber used to create the boxes. I'm seeing a few different material choices at the hardware store. Pine, MDF, etc. Do you have a suggestion of which material to use if the trim work will eventually be painted with the cabinets just as you did? Thanks again :)

Love what you did here...is this section of the island made of quality wood like the cabinets? Im looking to upgrade mine but I have cheap engineered wood on the back of my island, not sure if that can just be painted over or add a thin sheet of wood and then build the panel/trim work?
@RegularGuyDIY3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! The cabinet panels in my project are veneer and easy to paint. Please let me know what you decide and how it works out. Wishing you the best!
@alanp53483 жыл бұрын
Beautifully done! Since the sheeting on these islands is fairly thin, I am curious what size nail did you use in your gun. Also, I was wondering if you knew where the electrical wires ran to power the embedded sockets. Probably a good idea for me to avoid them!
@RegularGuyDIY3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting! I used 1” brads for the trim work. We have one outlet on the side of the island and the electrical conduit is visible from inside the cabinet. In our case the conduit is a couple inches from any nails, so there was no interference. I like that you’re thinking about personal safety and the potential for damage!
@JS-mt6wp2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tutorial. For the last piece of trim you used to finish the corners at the 16:54 mark. Did you had to rip one side so it sat perfectly on your 1x4? Did you use a table saw to do this?
@RegularGuyDIY2 жыл бұрын
You’re very welcome. That is exactly what I did. If you don’t have a table saw a circular saw could also do the trick. Worst case, and of course a matter of preference, you could simply butt one piece against the other side. Wishing you the best!

Nice Job! Thanks for sharing this! It is helpful! I'm looking to get the dimensions correct before I start on our island. You said you used 1x4's to frame the sides prior to adding the inside moulding. Can you confirm if you ripped standard lumber to 4" wide or if you used standard dimensional lumber which would give you 3-1/2" wide boards? (They look a little wider than 3-1/2" to me). Thanks!!

Did you use 1x3.5 for the frame and boxes? Did that matchup when you used the end as the finishing piece from the other side of the island?
@RegularGuyDIY3 жыл бұрын
Yes - 1” x 4” boards were used. At the 12:03 mark, I discuss a couple options for the cabinet corners. I ripped a 45 degree cut down the length of the boards. You could bypass that and butt the forward facing boards over the edge of the boards on the end.

How did the countertop getaway from the over hang in the middle with out corbels?
@RegularGuyDIY3 жыл бұрын
The butcher block is plenty sturdy, so corbels weren’t necessary for structural support. For the sake of our kneecaps, we didn’t want to add any decorative elements underneath the counter. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching and commenting!
