This is a simple little video showing you how to change a plain boxy kitchen island into something that really pops and makes the space look a ton better!
This was a super easy finish carpentry project and only took a few hours!
Thanks for watching! Let me know how your project goes!
Also, just in case you are looking for a good book series I thought I'd recommend my favorite! The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson is an incredible fantasy series spanning 15 books. It's a hum dinger of a read, but it was so much fun to discover! I feel like this book makes you have to go and tell other people about it, so, here's an innocent little link to the first three books of the series in case you want to read them!

He has some really good ideas that I’ve never thought of before. Great little details that add a lot to the look.

I like kitchen islands like this without the seating overhang.

Fantastic idea. I have the same cabinets/island and want to update without replacing everything. Would you post a picture of the finished island. I’m curious about whether you stained or painted the trim/island. Thank you :)

They ended up painting it a dark blue and left the butcher block stained (I really like the color choice). I don’t have an option to post a picture here in the comments unfortunately

You said you ripped the vertical corner pieces with a miter saw at a 46° angle. How do you rip that on a miter saw?
@berlinbuilds
@berlinbuilds Жыл бұрын
I ripped them on a table saw. Looks like I misspoke in the video. That would be a pretty boss move to rip them on a miter saw 🤣

What kind of nail gun do you use and what kind of nails? Finish nails?

Just curious, in this case why wouldn't you span the trim across the top and then cut the center piece to fit between the baseboard and top?
@berlinbuilds
@berlinbuilds 2 жыл бұрын
You totally could. That would give it more of the look of a traditional mullion. In this case it’s what the client wanted 👍

I’m very new at this but I’m going to try it. Can you tell me what did you use for the trim?

Welcome to finish carpentry! I used 1x6’s that I ripped a little narrower on a table saw for the baseboards. Then I used actual flat baseboard for the vertical pieces and the top piece under the countertop. I made sure to ease the square corners on the baseboard to make it look symmetrical.

Just curious. Was all parts of the trim edges rounded over or just the stiles and not the baseboard? Thanks in advance 😁
@berlinbuilds
@berlinbuilds Жыл бұрын
The top edge of the baseboard had the factory rounded edge and got a sharp edge when I ripped the bottom to the width I wanted. Everything had a rounded edge from the factory/or I made it round except for the bottom of the base, the vertical mitered corners I glued together, and the short ends of the stiles, and the mitered corners on the base.
