Howdy! Lots going on in this episode detailing the Saga of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon here in the Autoedit garage...
We start out on the side yard where I install a set of 1 ¾” front coil spring spacers that I got as a hand-me-down from my buddy Ron at the local shop called Blackstone Jeep. The spacers were necessary to lift the front end of the Jeep a little since the Warn winch and Rock Crawler Bumper had really weighed it down. While I had the Wrangler on jack stands, I thought to install the Metalcloak Adjustable Bump Stop Extenders front and rear. This is a quick do it yourself job that helps tune your JK to the almost infinite amount of variables like tire size and suspension components.
Then, it’s time to head out to Hungry Valley Off Road Park for some location scouting for the web show I work on called Dirt Every Day … and a little four wheeling practice!
On the way I give a very detailed account of living with a Jeep JKU on stock suspension and 37” BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires mounted to the original OEM Rubicon style wheels. Gas mileage, driving characteristics, etc. I tell it all.
Once at the park, I get my job done and take a few minutes to do a little four wheeling and discover some changes that need to be made to the Jeep for the next time out… but I do conquer an obstacle that had beat me in years past with my Grand Cherokee WJ!
I then go home and make those changes and take the Jeep out one more time for a quick test.
Don’t forget to subscribe to the autoedit youtube channel and share this video if you feel like!
Thanks for watching!

I don't subscribe to much on KZbin, but your videos stand out with legit high production value; great editing, multiple angles, great writing and helpful info. Bit wordy and repetitive during the on-road section in my opinion, but maybe it's because I was anxious to see how the bumpstops handled off-road. Keep up the good work! My '15 Rubicon and I are along for the ride. We don't have 37s...yet.

I have a heavily modified jeep and I still love watching your channel, just because you describe and do things in a manner they are easy to understand and a great channel for any jeepers. I run stock 4.10 with 37s and am happy with it. So I cannot wait to get 4.88 and see the difference. 300hp on the 3.8L is a very good number to me.

Boy am I glad I don't live in the city :P Be happy you have the 3.6L, those of us with the 3.8L are down quite a bit on power to what you have. I run 4.56's with 33's and its about right. This weekend I went camping with the Jeep loaded down (Well, as loaded down as a 2dr can be), and just that added weight was enough to slow it down up here in the Sierras. Oh, and I have a flowmaster 40 and it drones like crazy, but this appears to be a 3.8L thing. Key to big tires and narrow wheels is to set the air pressure right. Set it a bit lower with a 12.50 on a narrow wheel, and it will be fine. Great Video, love the extensions that you put the GoPro's on to give a better POV.

After watching your videos, I am going to go 37's like you until I am done saving for my Evo Double D lift. I bought the Teraflex 2in front 1 in rear spacer lift, Metalcloak bumpstops, 1.75 in Spydertrax spacers and the same flowmaster exhaust. Next month I will get the 37's and the Metalcloak overlines. You should get switch rear bumpers or trim the width down so the tires wont hit then you can have more travel instead of 2 in bumps in the rear. I am running an AEV tire carrier and going to mod the Evo Facia bumper to fit. Thanks for the motivation!

I tried 37's and some guy told me that I needed to to a lot of upgrades on my Jk. Since is a 4 by 2. I really whant 37's on my jeep so bad. The thing is, First, I need to get back bumper, then upgrade the jeep until is 4 by 4. Then get anothe lift, mines has like 2 inch lift but it still rub. Lots of money just to get 37's but man, It's worth it. Good luck on your project!

It's great seeing someone run 37s on a stock JK, but one big argument I always read about is the stock axles aren't strong enough to actually wheel it, do you off-road a decent amount with the cameras off? I assume your axles are holding up ok? Any plans in the near future to strengthen the axles? Thanks for the videos

Thanks! I keep looking at the Teraflex stuff... seems very good and they make fun videos. I'm also REALLY happy with the Metalcloak products I've installed so far so they are the front runner right now. Plus, I've been fortunate enough to spend some time in the shop at Synergy Mfg. and their stuff is pretty amazing...so we'll see what ends up on here.

*autoedit, I'm pretty sure I went through all of your videos looking for a DIY of your camera set up. As a JKU owner, I've been looking at ways to do an exterior camera mount set up to where I can view my tire placement in cab. I noticed you looking at your tablet as you were wheeling, my guess was, to see where your tires were lining up on that. Do you have a video, or could you make a video of your set up, (if you do have one)? I was planning on running a USB to laptop setup myself. And much later, a drone as a spotter.

Try your setup with a 37 that measure more true to size. A goodyear mtr/k or a nitto trail grappler in the same size measure almost a full inch taller on 9" wheels on factory wheels that are narrower they stand almost 2" taller.

You aren´t removing precious suspension flex by adding those limiters? If you are that serious about full off roading perhaps removing more metal material from the Fenders would be better? I don´t own a Jeep or anything I am just curious.

Did you burn out your clutch on that drainage ditch obstacle at around 16:00? I have a stick shift and always worry about how I drive it...thought I've only own manual transmission vehicles my whole life (nearly 50 years). I've never burned out a clutch myself, but I keep thinking this Jeep will be my first...on obstacles like you showed. What is the trick there?
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 8 жыл бұрын
Oh no, the clutch is fine. This was about the same as sitting in heavy traffic. It's a matter of learning the right gear and not slipping the clutch for long periods of time... it's a wear item and can be used as such.

What do you think about the wheel spacers that you put on? I have a 2015 JK Sahara manual with 3.73 gears and I want to put 35’s. I have a 2.5 coil and suspension lift and it’s my daily driver. My after market wheels, I believe has a -18 offset but I want it out more with putting on spacers. A lot of people are saying not to because if my gears. But I like the aggressive wide tires look and I want to put 35’s on it. Would you recommend the 35’s and the spacers. I currently have 33’s on it and have no issues going 80 in the highway. I just fear the death wobble even with the 33’s, but will fear it more with the 35’s and the wheel spacers. Any recommendations?
@AutoEdits

Wheel spacers are completely fine. I ran 1.5" spacers from G2 on the Jeep for over a year with no issues at all. Buy quality spacers and take care of them and it will work great.

So here's a question. Since you can roll on 37's without a lift (taking the mods you made into consideration), what size lift will you eventually go with? I've been considering 37's with a 3" (utilizing flat fenders) but most of the lift manufacturers don't really endorse that size lift with these size tires. Thoughts?

Now that you've made space for the wheels, do you still need the wheel spacers?
@AutoEdits

Yes, they help with steering angle and suspension clearance.

Another great video. Before switching to a new rear bumper did that exhaust ever give you any heat damage to the stock bumper? I asked once before just checking if that ever changed.
@AutoEdits

I'm still running the stock bumper and the exhaust has been completely fine on that.

Do you have any sort of locker or limited slip? Also what do you think about the bolt on wheel spacers? Ive heard mixed reviews about them.

It's a Rubicon so it has both front and rear lockers.

Wheel spacers are very hard on the axles and need to be maintained. I personally would never use them on a vehicle that is driven on the highway but if it's your off-roader then it can't cause much damage.
@WildHobos

Would wheels with more backspacing not have the same effect?
@Brandon-ni9ge
@Brandon-ni9ge 8 жыл бұрын
HobosGoneWild sorta but manly because a spacer can be spinning at the same time as the wheel if the spacers bolts get lose and can cause damage over time. If your looking at getting rims for a fair price discount tire Direct isn't to bad. But it's all up to you its your vehicle.

hey quick ? I'm adding 315/70/17 ko2s tomorrow. Have you had to upgrade you breaks with the 37s?

Itd be wise to upgrade your brakes, but I have a buddy running 37 km2s on stock brakes and hes still alive
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 8 жыл бұрын
It's ok with the stock brakes but does take a noticeable amount of extra pressure on the pedal for the same braking I had with stock tires. I will look for a brake upgrade in the future.

How does your jeep drive with the wheel spacers? I'm thinking about getting 1.5 rough country wheel spacers for my jk, does it affect the drive quality too much?
@AutoEdits

The spacers didn't change drive quality at all. The Jeep feels great on and off the road.
