Lots of people I have talked to not saying you they dose kalkwasser the wrong way before you dose any kalkwasser first take your test kit and make sure your alkalinity is where you want I keep mine at 9.5 dkh if your alkalinity is low you can always raise it wait a few hours then check your calcium and adjust if necessary once you have your alkalinity and calcium where you want it that's when you start dripping kalkwasser I use one teaspoon per gallon of r o d i water I mix it up and wait about an hour then I use it at a drip rate of 1 drop every 2 to 3 seconds people have to remember this you must first get your alkalinity where you want it i keep mine at 9.5 dkh then after a couple hours get your calcium level where you want it do not try to do both at the same time give it a couple hours between then when you have your levels where you want that's when you start dripping kalkwasser into your system I'm not trying to sound like a mister know-it-all but I've seen people do this the wrong way time and time again I dropped my kalkwasser 24/7 from time to time also check your pH so it does not go to High good luck

Thank you Mr Know It All. j/k Really, thank you. From what I have gathered from BRS videos, two tsp per gallon gives you full saturation. So I thought I would start off with 1 tsp and check my levels. I also found in my research that you should first bring your Mag then Alk then Ca levels up to where you want them, waiting an hour in between. But I'll try 2 hrs like you mentioned. I wasn't sure of the drip rate. So thanks for that. Everything you said was what I wanted clarification on. Maybe you can offer some advise here.. I also wondered how to bring up my PH on my water change salt mix. I use TM Pro which mixes at 7.2 PH and I want it at 8.3. Can Kalk be used to bring up the levels in the water change water?

Any updates on Kalk dosing?

I only dose it when both alk and calcium dip. That way I bring them up together. I've used it about 5 times since then. It definitely helps bring them up into line. Then I increase my 2 part to match. I'm at 55ml alk and calcium a day now

@@shallowreefingCool. I’m just getting my 120 ready for corals/fish (cycling empty for 6mos now) And I’m dosing kalk to maintain 8.2 PH (up from a baseline 7.9 to 8.0 PH)..this is maintaining the empty tank alk at 9dk. So as I add corals, my plan is to dose kalk to maintain the PH and alk and then dose Tropic Marin’s carbo calcium (highly concentrated) in addition to kalk to keep up with demand. So at some point the kalk dosing will be solely for maintaining PH and carbo will pick up the alkalinity slack from the kalk. .

@@bdanz5851 it sounds like you have a good plan. My advice would be don't chase ph. Just keep alkalinity and calcium stable using kalkwasser and you won't have to worry about PH. Ph is really something you don't need to worry too much about until you got your system running along nicely and you want to optimize it to increase growth.

@@shallowreefingHere is some reference about pH. The ocean is 8.2 and the entire world of ocean biologists are freaking out that it’s dropping to 8.1-8.15. It’s probably as important as salinity and temp management.

It makes absolutely no sense to chase a higher dKH than 8-9 or a higher calcium level than 420. The ocean has a dKH of 7 and a calcium level of 420 in a healthy ocean reef. Chasing pH with Kalk makes a ton of sense since 8.0 is 3 times more acidic than 8.3.

I can’t remember what I said in this video haha. But yes I try and keep my ph above 8.2. I love kalkwasser. Check out new updates on the tank. I have a kalk stirrer now. I’m putting in about 3.5L of it a day plus 2 part dosing
