Hi mate pond and fish looking great put my covers on last week following your last video . I to have a black koi of around 12 years old he gets full of carp pox never affects him at all . One year it almost dissapeared but it came back . Thanks for the new video and the tips will be lifting my pump up to mid water for the winter cheers kev .
@boxtriker5 жыл бұрын
Its a strange thing is carp pox as I said most grow out of it then you get the odd fish that has it all its life. I'm guessing you are a pump feed filter system if you are going to lift the pump work it so you can up and down it from the bottom on the warmer days to clear the bottom and fit a float switch if you don't have one play safe pipe splits and freezes can lose water fast Martyn
@kevingridley26435 жыл бұрын
@@boxtriker yes mate pump fed yes i have a float switch had cheap chinese 1 before but recently switched to an italian 1 much better quality . Im old school i run kockney koi multi bay i have added this year a shower filter which has given me much better water quality . Do you switch your uv off during the colder months
@boxtriker5 жыл бұрын
Kevin nothing wrong with Kockney koi filters good filters in there day and still good filters today and no electric bits to bust. a drum is only in flavour till someone makes something better the thing that will stay top of using list is the shower filter and the moving bed. Yes I turn the UV off it went off 2 days back no point running it winter if the water shows a green tint anytime then I will turn it back on but only dun this 2 maybe 3 times in 12 years and its 55w saved for near 6 months so £12 in my pocket. Entire pond should run on a bit under 75w 24/7 winter after the summer use of 250w 24/7 should be a saving of around £90 for the winter use over summer Martyn

@@boxtriker That's worth doing every little helps ... ye the old filter does me proud after the problems James the koi whisperer has had that put me off 1 of them .
@boxtriker5 жыл бұрын
Kevin don't be put of the Eazy pod they are a very good mechanical filter add a bio pot after one and you have a nexus I have had a eazy pod for 8 years or more its just the auto pod that James has had problems with and I cant under stand why EA even went down that road with a auto clean system for the pods and the nexus you are just asking for problems and with the price in the ball park of a Drum filter there marketing head must be a right muppet. The best thing they had was the Answer centre filter for there systems its a winner with the new low power pumps you can now get they could sell them for £500 less complicated than a drum and would be £250 less than the cheapest drum out there and what do they do stop selling it Muppets Martyn

The prep now can save problems mid winter the pond tests winter are just as important as summer tests its no fun having to play around with cold water in the pissing rain mid winter so autumn its a busy time like spring time to a pond keeper

I enjoyed that walk around very much. My have 2 cameras under the cover and can watch my koi all winter long. It's heated (heat not on yet though, but soon). Funny thing is that I love watching my koi on my big screen TV more than actually going pond side (crazy huh). Thus, I rush to cover mine at the end of summer and I'm in no hurry to take them (covers) off late spring. Do you feed your koi cooked shrimps that come frozen? (Because I just bought some for me koi).
@boxtriker5 жыл бұрын
freeze dry shrimps I'm on the look out for a cheap water waterproof wifi camera to stick under the cover it has to be water proof and in the water as the covers are so tight to the water. Martyn

No problem Tony It takes time to grow the bio in a pond 4 months to a full year its a slow build up on a new pond. Its always a water change thing till the filters get up to speed with the fish load in the pond. I take it you have a good water test kit have you tested the tap water you are putting into the pond Martyn
@tonyhifi585 жыл бұрын
@@boxtriker I have tested tap water with same kit and no Ammonia in it.i use the API test kit. so do I feed or not and how much water do I change every day ..by the way I got the 3 stage water filter and a pressure gauge thinking of doing a trickle feed for the water .going to make myself a D.I.Y.overflow so a little water is changing all the time what do you think .
@boxtriker5 жыл бұрын
Tony if you can trickle in out that is the best way to go let the Ammonia run a little high as this give the growing bio something the feed on you need to keep a eye on the Nitrate looking for a rise in that over what ever a sample of tap waters reading is that will tell you the pond cycle is running keep up a splash bio booster or balls in to the filter every week or so. The thing you are trying to get is old water pond water ages like wine this is why people don't like to lose to much of there pond water you are suffering new pond syndrome with the new water have a good look on the google and it will give you some more help Martyn

Do you take your skimmer outlet in to a filter or in the pond direct.

yes John the skimmer head comes off when the covers on just a cage over the end its about 18 inch down the wall it feeds right into the easy pods
