you people make me sick! you're so skilled and make it look so easy. and that idea with the stones was brilliant. and the foresight about the nails being weather proof and making sure to use a fine toothed circ blade ... how do you know that stuff? i wish i had the same talent/ability. such a pro job.

Hi! I appreciate the flowers. I have been doing this a while, so that's the only reason I now. I have tried to cut that plastic with a regular saw blade before and it winds up all chipped and cracked! "Note to self, don't use a regular wood blade for lattice!" Thank you so much for the great feedback..

When cutting lattice, i use my angle grinder with a thin-metal cut-off disk. Seriously, i don't know why anyone would use anything else.

Yes that would work fine on the plastic stuff, but on wood I don't think it would work to good.. On wood I use the finest tooth blade I can find..

I’ve never installed lattice of any type before. I watched your video and still don’t know anything about it. I feel like you’re describing this from an already experienced person who should know what all these different tools are , but thank you for your efforts. Hint, if I was teaching you how to start an IV, I would be a little more specific !!

Every situation is going to be different from the layout of the land, the deck height, the framing to hold up the lattice. There are so many factors that have to be considered for each job. The principles are going to be similar but an in depth description of how I did each aspect of this particular job would not be very beneficial to someone with an entirely different situation. That's why this is more of an overview to give the viewer an idea what they're up against 😀

Staples are an issue... Whatever is holding the latice up should have room for expansion: screws with slightly larger screws is the best option.

@@TheHomeImprovementChannelYou missed the whole point this is about expansion and contraction. It's about when the material shrinks and expands. Maybe read the manufacturers instructions so it will last much longer. Not seeing them has nothing to do with my comment... Lmfao

How did you make the door?? I'm trying to make one now in my existing lattice under my screen porch.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, that's kinda hard to describe in a short message. Basically I made it out of 2x4s. Measured the opening and made the door about 3/8 smaller. I laid it on a flat surface so when I screwed it together it wasn't warped. I will usually add a 45 degree brace from the lower hinge side to the upper non hinge side... I hope that helps.

What did you paint the deck with, and how well did it work for you? I'm asking because I used a product recommended by Home Depot that is a deck product to fill in gaps and give a non slip textured finish to an old deck, and it's been a NIGHTMARE to keep clean!😢 Everything sticks to it and it's always filthy, even just my dogs walking across it looks awful! I tried putting a coat of pain paint over it to make it less textured so dirt wouldn't stick so bad but it's still terrible!😢
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes I've seen those finishes. I don't like them either. I just used regular exterior paint believe it or not. It stayed pretty good on the rails, but on the deck surface I had to touch it up every year or so. I think a deck stain is probably the best thing. But of course it'll only work well if you have wood that is bare... 😀
@richellmcknight446
@richellmcknight446 Жыл бұрын
@The Home Improvement Channel Yes, I HAD bare wood to start with, lol, and I was actually going to use the deck stain, but the "expert" working there talked me into the other product because it was supposed to be better for my OLD deck boards, lol😂 I've been trying to decide if it's worth my time to either sand that stuff off and go with a stain, or even flip the boards and stain the back side😁 Or if I should just pressure wash it and go with an exterior paint, like you did. I did put a coat on it already like that at the beginning, when I could see how awful it was as a dirt magnet, but it didn't help much.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
@@richellmcknight446 I don't recommend flipping the boards. I don't know how big your deck is, but it can be a daunting task. Especially if it's older and the boards are brittle. You'll find that many of them will break trying to get them loose. If it's a small deck that's not to old that might be a good option. Outdoor paint will look good for a little while, but it'll start to flake off after a few months in high traffic areas. (Like mine was leading to the front door). That's the route I took because like you I already had stain on the deck and it was to much trouble to try and get it off of there!

HI, the saw I'm using in the video is a porter cable similar to this one, www.lowes.com/pd/ROCKWELL-4-1-2-in-Corded-Circular-Saw-with-Steel-Shoe/50073341?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-tol-_-ggl-_-LIA_TOL_129_Power-Tools-_-50073341-_-local-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&gclid=CjwKCAjw2f-VBhAsEiwAO4lNeODBaCT3BcUgSHNYOhjzg8qQ4vimu-1PhqcYFCMr5UmjX-dzuQMXZhoCkvUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds but any circular saw with a fine tooth blade should do the trick. An oscillating tool would also work although it'll take a bit longer.

Looks good, but why didn’t you paint the lattice frame/support? It looks like the rest of your deck is painted and this makes it look a little unfinished.
