Love it! I do this stuff in the living room too, but my wife isn't so enthusiastic about it. LOL! Your DIY, low-budget way of doing things is great; shows others that we don't have to have all the fancy tools and equipment to get a great looking product.

I want to make a leather bag/case for my macbook pro as a first project learning leather crafting. I LOVE that you've lined it. I have a ton of extra heavy fabrics around, like denim. My 400 pound x left his clothes behind and I am upcycling them into useful things! So I will line mine with denim.

Beautiful project! A couple of things to try in future: decent size foam sponge for laying on dye (you coat a larger surface area in each sweep and can control application better) and tokonole for smoothing flesh side and burnishing edges. I went from water to beeswax to gum trag and eventually gave in and ordered the tokonole. I’m also a lover of mink oil for final conditioning as it keeps your veg fan soft and water resistant. Cheers!

I don't see any imperfections, ive seen high end bags that have the darker spots. it actually makes it look nice and gives it character.

Remember, your stitching line should be the same distance from the edge as the thickness of the total thickness. You could've trimmed off another 1/6" off each edge to bring the stitches closer and getting rid of some of the separation of glue and leather that I was able to see. This is good for a first or second medium-sized project. Overall, well done.

Nice job. to help with a bigger project instead of using a dauber use a wool pad and go in circles. it will help with evening out the dye and help with no streaks. Also maybe check out saddle stitching. it is a better stitch to use then one needle. Hope these tips will help you out.

I use a fine china bristle paint brush for dye. It always comes out even. full wide strokes ya know. i was skeptical myself but it does work great

Use an oil-based dye and rags or sponges, as applicators, to get rid of the streaks.

Love your work, your videos should be newer. I hope to see something you made last week even though I love what you made last year and would be more than happy to attempt it. Where does one buy leather goods like that? I would like to make something first out of neoprene

Aside from the swivel knife, I think most of the specialty leatherworking tools came in a leatherworking starter kit from Tandy. To make the holes for the closure, I used a $10 hole punch from tractor supply. If you're interested in getting started in leatherworking, I think that kit was about $100 and worth every penny - it gives you the tools to make tons of projects. Good luck!
