Devon Crawford curious bro. Just wondering. How is this LED strip different from the "dancing line" lights feature sold on amazon? I was looking at that a while ago, but I didn't order it because it didn't work with other sound outputs, like if you wanted to listen to your music discretely using ear buds but still wanting to see the light display. Also, if you do end up shipping these, can you make an app for Android that can remotely control the LED strip like turning it off and on and customizing the lights?

This is really cool... I think the formula you were looking for is Hue, Saturation, Value. Hue is the color, saturation is how gray it is, and value is the brightness. Hue is measured in degrees from 0 to 360 (0 is red, then 360 is red again after going through all of the colors of the rainbow). You can map whatever you were doing with your if statements to a hue, and then convert the HSV values to RGB to set the color of the light.

I'm totally late to this party, but you could use gradient palettes in FastLED to map the values to RGB. You setup colors at several values between 0 and 255, and anything in between those colors will blend. I use these with my 600 LED setup to get cool effects like flame animations using rainbow colors. Anyway, awesome video! I may be attempting to duplicate this on my setup soon.

Couldn’t you just map the frequency range (~200hz-16khz since the rest is mostly inaudible) across the color range (#000000-FFFFFF) instead of using that series of if statements?
@AndreasInGreer3 жыл бұрын
Not with this setup. This is based on total volume. There is no analysis of the frequency band, however, THAT would indeed be awesome to map the frequency to groups of LEDs and then change their brightness based on the amplitude of the frequency sections.

Nice design. Has a lot of potential. I built one of those back in the 80's using some 74xxx IC's that fed into some MOSFET circuits to provide the needed amplification. Worked great, I think it was 16-channel (I could be wrong - I'm gettin old). Anyways, in those days we did everything more simply. No computers. Wish I had the circuit diagrams - I'd send them to you. The channel outputs were programmed with just resister/capacitor combinations. I used to sit in my basement building shit just like you do on the same breadboards. Good luck!

Great work and great effort keep the good work going. I actually figured out why the Frequency to voltage converter chip was not working. If you directly supplying the signal from phone your phone to the frequency to voltage converter circuit, this is probably why it was not functioning as it should be. This chip even the second circuit you ended up going with expects a frequency modulated signal, look up FM modulation if you are not familiar with the term. Basically, you need to supply any freq to volt converter with an FM modulated signal (Fixed amplitude and varying frequency). If you want to improve the current design I suggest adding an extra stage before the FtoV converter which handles the FM modulation. this should allow you to scale 20 to 20khz (human hearable frequency) to any voltage range you want 0 to 3.3 or 0 to 5 depended on the MCU you are using.
