I am 63 years old, got up early sweating about what and how I am going repair and update my 88 year old mother's home and then ran across one of your videos and now have been glued to your site. I see most of my day is planned out, a date with you and your family and your amazing videos. You have given me so many fabulous ideas that are exactly that have been rolling around in my head for months. Thank you so much for all of the details you have shared. It has been so encouraging. Now off to another video.

FYI, the silicone will eat the silvering off the back of a mirror long term. I recommend using liquid nail. Silicone is fine for the face of the mirror, just not the backside. Love the woodworking!

excellent job but how to hang on the wall safely?
@Scott_Wilkins
@Scott_Wilkins 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for this. I'm literally about to start the exact same build with tamboti live edge. The only thing that worries me is that silicon holding it up long term. Obviously hung horizontally its not much of an issue. But if I wanted it to hang vertically would the silicon be enough to hold it?
@RadDadBuilds
@RadDadBuilds 3 жыл бұрын
Since making this video ive found out you can buy a mirror adhesive/sealent. The silicone in this video is still holding strong but if you're concerned I would check that out.

Hi - excellent work there. I am making a similar project using Yew - 6' long. My concern is the wood moving over time and the stress on the glass. Are you confident the silicone will allow for that movement without cracking the mirror ?
@RadDadBuilds
@RadDadBuilds 4 жыл бұрын
So good question. First of all I wouldn't recommend using a wood that is likely going to move, especially mixing it with glass/ mirror. I used a kiln dried maple which sealed correctly and used in a dry environment shouldn't have much movement. That said I used silicone instead of a construction adhesive or clips to allow for minor movement. off the top of my knowledge silicone is the most flexible adhesive on the market. I know Home Depot and probably other big box stores have come out with a specific mirror silicone which in the future I would likely use. I hope this helps. Also be careful of Yew Wood as the sawdust can be poisonous.

Thanks for sharing. Would like to know what i can use instead of Odie's oil. Can boiled linseed oil do the job?I'm in Zambia btw.
@RadDadBuilds
@RadDadBuilds 4 жыл бұрын
Yea boiled linseed should work though I have never used it. Odies and osmo oil are the only brands I use. I know they both ship worldwide but I imagine it comes with a price tag.

The frame is hold by a mirror. if the mirror breaks = break the frame I do it a different way.
