Hey guys! This tutorial will teach you how to create a fun geometric pattern that you can incorporate into your wall hanging. Let’s get started!
Using the left strand as your filler cord, tie 5 double half hitch knots moving to the right.
Continue using the left strand as your filler cord and tie 7 more rows (8 total rows) of double half hitch knots.
Using the right strand as your filler cord, tie 5 double half hitch knots moving to the left. Continue using the left strand as your filler cord
We will also tie 8 rows of double half hitch knots using the 6 strands on the right. I tie a few rows on the left first, then a few on the right and so on until I reach 8 rows total with both sections of my work. You can choose to tie the knots however you’d like.
Grab an extra piece of rope and tie a row of double half hitch knots across both sections of your work.
Tuck in the ends on both sides of your work. There are loops in the back from tying your double half hitch knots - tuck the end into a few of these loops and then cut the extra rope.
We will now repeat the pattern from the top - using the left strand as your filler cord, tie 5 double half hitch knots moving to the right. Repeat until you’ve tied 8 rows of double half hitch knots on the left side of your work. Repeat this process on the right side of your work.
I’ve just tied 4 rows here to show you what it will look like but if you are interested in repeating the pattern from the top you will need to tie 8 rows.
You can choose to keep one section in front and one in the back or you can alternate (I’ve kept the section that starts on the right in the front for this demonstration).

I love love the designs, however, I an not understanding tying left vs tying right. Is there aa ultra simplefied video 0001 showing a better close up view of how and why this is done. Secondly is there a video that shows what would happen using different colors and how one would dominate as a highlight colored pattern besides just the whole white and or whole grey colors. I love your geometric patterns and plan to incorporate then into my on wall hanging designs! I have a question regarding making a nice plant hanger, and wondering how the design would hold up to the weight of the potted plant. Have you tested or created such a design and if so did it hold it's shape, or did it get all strectched out looking? Thank you!

Heide Langdon thanks so much!! Yes I’ve created a number of plant hangers - short answer is generally speaking they hold their shape! But it would depend on the type of rope you are using, the thickness and the weight of the pot. I’d use at least 3mm thickness and a 3 ply/braided cord has more structure than twisted string so that might be better if you are hanging a larger pot. Let me know if you have any specific questions! Thank you for the great reply! Yes! I agree on the mm thickness, I have a 5mm braided cord I was considering, so I'm going to just give it a try! My son in law is into plants , and just last week asked me to design a pattern...like zig zag, or " the Eifel Tower"....lol. So the timing of your tutorial was PERFECT! I wish all you people that do tutorials would consider the speed at which you work in regards to new beginners. It is very important to know which strand goes under, over around, whatever the case and when I try to recreate step by step even slowing down the video your hands often hid what you are doing and it makes it very hard to do.

Noemi Cavalli hello! It is cotton braided cord (7mm). I purchased the last couple of spools at a local craft store so I am unsure where you could purchase more of it - sorry about that! It is the biggest cord I have so i find it works well for many of my tutorials.
