This is really terrific. If I make one, I think I'd probably go without a table cloth and instead paint the top black, maybe glue some black felt to the top as a working surface for non-closeup work, and trim it around this sides with edge molding (aluminum or chrome, maybe), for clean lines.

Nice assembly and finishing job. I would personally paint the top black. Right now, I found an old wooden serving tray (remember TV diners)? It’s 14x22 - light and folds up for storage or easy transport. My wife used it for houseplants, so i will paint it black with red trim and redo the top in a Fu Manchu theme. I would like to add a removable sliding secret drawer to catch drops or extra props. All I need now is the black tablecloth and the larger pad. Very cool. I’ll be writing a blog about this soon. ~Zedwaldo
