You need to put a rotating plate in the bottom of the microwave and cover it in grapes cut in half with a tiny bit of skin left between them, they create plasma and then when they break they propel themselves away from each other actually you should team up with physics girl to answer why they push themselves away from each other when after the plasma burns the center part out.

I'm thinking if you place the magnetrons at a distance proportional to microwave wave length, than maybe they amplify each other better. Or they might not! the other option would be to have some reflective surfaces in front of them to randomize the output a bit more as they do in some microwaves. That would steer the waves a bit more especially if the surfaces move. ALSO! to get larger sparks from the foil, don't ball it, but leave strips of foil close to each other and that should look more magnificent! AND... no I'm done [Edit] oh wait! to see the wave pattern in the oven you could leave a cardboard box in it for 10 seconds and look at it with a thermal camera

Electrical engineer here, you should shield the magnetrons that could be unsafe exposed like that, principally because you have many of those side by side. also, depending on the distance you put them appart, and the phase of the waves, they might not even be more powerfull than a single magnetron, they could even cancel out each other and you'd end up with less power being transmitted.
@m88k5 жыл бұрын
There's also the inherent flaw in "more magnetrons=more power" I see no evidence he's running 40 amp service to the megawave. Can pretty clearly see the lab power supply registering 24v, 1 amp, but it's also clearly not powering the magnetrons.
@jamesharrell43605 жыл бұрын
It's the mesh washer that does most of the emitting. Still tho, there's about 20 things wrong with this setup. :0)
@Silentguy_5 жыл бұрын
I honestly feel like he want fully powering the circuit as is anyways. A regular microwave pulls roughly 12-16 amps at 120V and NA breakers pop at around 20Amps so there’s no way he was running all of them at full power, unless he managed to tap multiple breakers across his house. And then, as you said, you can’t just bolt a magnetron to a surface and hope it works. Regular microwaves have physical wave guides and rotate just to evenly heat. Now you point multiple magnetrons straight into one direction, all with differing brands, power levels, and possibly even slightly different frequencies, it a miracle it worked at all

Lighters will never explode unless you break the entire containment space for the gas simultaneously. This is something learned as a... wayward child. Small holes especially melted ones, near an ignition source, always give a flame thrower. I think the burning gas melts the edges of the hole and makes them reseal. The classic method requires a small bit of skill to hit the ground right, like knife throwing, but you throw the lighter in such a way as to hit the plastic base against the ground and shatter it all in one go. We always used to joke about throwing it down next to a candle... but never tried it. Maybe you should. Just... insert an appropriate disclaimer here. :P

My GE microwave from 2005 finally crapped out. At first kzbin.infoUgkxO_Bc204MGjxDl87cOKcdgaRhzSqGmv_g I was unsure because I was looking for something with the exact same features. Found it with this one. Interior space cavity was large, but the outside was smaller than my old one. I love the one-button push for 1-6 minutes, and the 30 second add or 30 second start. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I love how you can adjust the power level during cooking. The reviews said it could not be done, but this marked all the other boxes. and happy to say, it does. I can hit 1 minute start, and change the power level from 10 to 5, 30 seconds in, without interruption. my favorite feature!

Ofcourse the microwave inside the microwave didn't work. Since each microwave is a Faraday cage just as you said that protects from the microwaves. So the inside of the inner microwave is protected from the outer microwaves waves by it's Faraday cage, hence no improvement. However the parts outside the Faraday cage (such as electronics and plastics) is affected, hence it melted.

Microwaves are actually not as dangerous as people say, you can run a magnetron in open air without skin protection and be perfectly fine, that’s because it disperses so damn much, that it can’t hit anything with enough precision to heat the body. That being said, if you stick the gun of the magnetron to your body, its gonna get hot, and possibly burn you internally(which is lethal sometimes). So, magnetrons and microwaves aren’t super dangerous unless you make a device that focuses the output, then it’s more dangerous. Still, you need to know a lot of stuff about microwaves before you work on them or repurpose then.

You should have extended the box to cover the magnetrons. (they would still be divided from the main chamber of coarse so you wouldn't end up with them microwaving themselves in the process). Have you ever wondered why the entire microwave is made of metal and not just the cage area that surrounds your food chamber? That is probably why you were getting leakage issues. ;)

I was wondering if you just attached the magnetrons where they would fit, or did you calculate out the distances based on the wavelengths so that one magnetron wouldn't cause the others to be out of phase with it (causing dead spots), reducing the total power produced. Figuring out waveguide lengths, shapes, and sizes is a black art. Your microwave seemed to work pretty well!

Did you match the characteristic impedance of the magnetron output waveguide with open air (about 377 Ohms)? If you did not you are creating reflected waves that will diminish the life of the magnetrons and decrease performance. Most waveguides have a horn on the end that accomplish this. You could reuse the sheetmetal one in each microwave. That would increase your efficiency. I should also mention random microwave emission ports cause random constructive and destructive waves within the cavity. So theoretically there may be spots with no microwave energy. The most efficient way to do this is to place each magnetrons at points on one wave guide where each adds to the amplitude of the other or multiplex several waveguides feeding into one output feehorn in the microwave.
@wartech06 жыл бұрын
That can be tricky to do if the wave guides are not setup perfectly they can theoretically experience the same destructive interference but yes I imagine his megawave has a lot of cold spots.
@erikkovacs30976 жыл бұрын

To suffer injury, you need to break the ceramic and inhale a tiny bit of the dust. Don't do that. There is no reliable way to determine whether the one you are using contains beryllium or not, so you must assume it does.

Awesome stuff as always! Better than when I microwaved a microwave. It was really hard for me to find microwaves that fit the specifications (a huge over-the-range microwave and a 600 watt microwave from K-Mart). Give it enough time and it'll catch fire (it was tough putting out the fire of the small microwave). Amazingly the glowstick I put in the small microwave remained intact.
@theauggieboygamer91483 жыл бұрын
3:21 no, this is not normally what it sounds like to be inside a running microwave, the reason you hear that low pitch sound is actually a lot cooler, as you may or may not know, microwave radiation and tech do not mix, what you were hearing was the microphone and camera reacting to the microwave radiation, luckily it was mostly undamaged, but if it was inside the microwave, it would have broken it
