Unless it is in a chamber I don't think it would be illigal. Not legal advice but I dont think blowing up a cartridge with duct tape on it would sent you to prison I was more concerned about him being hit with brass shrapnel from the case, as the tape would let it build up slightly more pressure. The bullet is too heavy to go anywhere ouside a chamber.

Molten lithium is one thing I have not seen before. I recently read a lengthy paper about battery recycling. The most common method for lithium batteries is to literally just light them on fire. It's kind of ridiculous, they don't even bother to recover the lithium, just the more expensive elements like cobalt. I wonder if there's something an induction heater might have to offer to more easily extract lithium from batteries before they go wholesale into the furnace.

There’s a guy at my shop that has a handheld induction heater, called Bolt Buster or something like that. It’s not as powerful as Backyard Scientist’s but he does use it to pop open glass bottles of pop. Personally I want to try that with a Guinness or a Nitrogenated beverage and see how far the bottlecap goes.

I have a video idea but it’s kinda random. Could u get a fully pressurized aluminum scuba tank and put some gallium on it and wait till failure? Bonus points if you catch the failure in slowmo. Edit Maybe rough up the bottom of the tank and put it in a small pool of liquid gallium heated with a candle or something. You might get a rocket. Consider keeping a rifle near by so you can easily end the test if you need to

It only warms up the metal, which expands and therefore loses grip on the glass. The carbonation pressure does the rest! The glass is a bad thermal conductor, so the liquid itself won't heat at all. However, it might crack the glass due to thermal stress.
@cleric4265

It heats up the cap which in turn heats up the air between the cap and the beverage. Hot air expands and pops off the cap. Nothing to do with carbonation.
