This video is an update on my DIY MIDI Remote Control Project. I'm showing here a bit of rework on the strip PCB and some advancement on the chassis setup. Should you want to contact me, you can reach me at fcengineering.it@gmail.com

Hey there, I stumbled on your project cuz I was looking for DIY controllers with motorized faders. Great work so far, your prototype is coming out nicely. I think there are a bunch of people with interest like me out there. I agree it could be a lot smaller and also have more knobs, but hey at least it's working! These units could have tons of application like controlling hardware / software synth patches, not just for replicating a mixing desk.. Glad to have found your project ;)

To be honest, I still feel that the PCB could be a lot smaller. As someone that is used to live digital mixers and older analog mixers, I find the top section above the fader with the status LEDs and the buttons to be gigantic and could be easily 1/4th the length. The buttons could be for example in a 2x2 grid or just closure together side by side with the LEDs, allowing you to make the length of the PCB around 1/3 shorter in length.

hello ralmslb, thanks a lot for your comment. It's well received and yes most likely there is room to make the PCB smaller in size, both X and Y dimensions. However, we need to consider two elements in the mix: 1) reducing the PCB size means increase the density in terms routing and components. This could lead in moving from 2 layers PCB (current structure) to 4 layers. 4 Layers mean more costs of production, more complexity in designing and in testing. 2) Space and size in a human interface bring typically ergonomic adavtages. I'll be giving anyway a serious thought! Cheers.

Do you plan to release the updated version as open source project like the previous version?Anyways you did amazing job on this project!
