This Video shows how I installed a MrCool Mini Split Air Conditioning Unit (air/heat). Installed a 24K BTU split unit at 20 SEER rating. Good for Mini split units and Stage 3rd & 4th Generation MrCool Units.

Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) kzbin.infoUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

Very great videos. For sure today. I have installed two12k units in the past and installed a 18k today. Was having problems getting it running and in your video, you said (don't forget to open the 2 valves) Thats just what I did. Thank you, I didn't want to take it out.

Thank you very much for your time and posting. I am going to have to put in a 27K BTU w/ two heads. And I'm going to have to run one at 16 ft and one at about 35 feet. But everything is doable if you have the money. :) Thanks again.

Is there anything to prevent you from running a 110/120V (considering the smaller 12K unit) standard grounded / 3rd prong plug into an ordinary wall socket as long as it is still on a 20 Amp fuse to the the hot / ground of the outside unit? Just trying to cancel the need for the outside box and tapping a existing indoor electrical circuit.

I would always use a dedicated line electrical circuit for safety reason.

Thank you for the comment. I think the mini split is the way to go. Easy DIY for most people and clean. It can be difficult if installing a mini split on and 2nd or 3rd floor. However, for garage, workshop, single level homes it is perfect.

@@TheWhatisright "It can be difficult if installing a mini split on and 2nd or 3rd floor". The most underrated statement ever... Add that I am not installing in on an exterior wall, and feeding it inside a wall, and through multiple attics. Doubling the fun, I am using 2 air handlers, 1 on the 3rd floor den and the other a 2nd floor bonus room. So, for me, the pathway is beyond challenging, but unit itself was a savior as I spent about $5K with electrical services, compared to the COVID price of 11K for a professionally installed unit with identical specs. So, save about $6K to do it myself, check. Gotta save for the vette... I also swapped the cheap drain tube for 3/4 PVC. Better durability against rodents, and since it is going through walls/attic, I can be sure there is a consistent downward angle for drainage. it also aided in running pathways since it is rigid and did not require a fish tape. Finally, I added pipe insulation to ensure it does not freeze in winter, but also to ensure there is no condensation forming on the outside of the pipe, per the cold water being drained. Extra steps, but gives me piece of mind I won't be creating mold, it won't back up, etc. Now, I just need to figure out what to put on the end to keep bugs out of the drain pipe. I researched for months and this MR Cool unit is the easiest to install. I was considering getting all the tools for charging/testing the lines of other units, but found this and it sold me. Received the unit and it looks pretty darn good on quality as well, so I will know in another week or so. But I have already run most of the line sets and drain, so the tough stuff is done. The entire 3rd floor is my den/man cave if you will, so I have an office, bathroom, entertainment area with TV and a craft room for all my projects/outdoors needs. I ordered the unit months ago so I could design the wall and add sleeves for the line sets. That template was also a game charger, helping me design my wall. In that regard I think most minisplits are on an outside wall, and simply exit quickly. So, my install is challenging, but every aspect of installing the unit itself is easy, almost fail safe. My only complaint so far is that very cheap drain line. As I said, I always planned to use PVC, but even for an exterior install, I would think it would be a little more rigid... Seems like the elements will eat it quickly. Anyway, good video. Thanks for your time.

So, did you have the line and circuit breaker pre-installed by an electrician? Must the unit be within a certain distance from the main breaker panel?
@TheWhatisright
@TheWhatisright 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, and good question. In fact, an expert was looking over my shoulder and corrected me as I needed to tighten one of the wires a little more. Pool circuit bracket box was installed by an electrician as I only needed to install a new 220 volt 30 amp circuit breaker. The pool Circuit Breaker Box is 30 feet away from the shop circuit breaker box inside the work shop. Condenser connections are about 20 feet from the pool circuit breaker box. The condenser mounted on the concrete slab is 19 inches from the workshop outer wall to allow for good circulation. Bottom line is, many states have different requirements. Best to have expert electrician supervise or install if required by state.

I am not afraid of any DIY home renovation, but will not touch a sub panel. I had an expert perform it, but I believe Code everywhere is that you must have an AC disconnect right next to the unit and in some instances a regular GFI protected outlet close to the unit. So I had the electrician add a 40Amp breaker, run the conduit to the AC disconnect and add a whip. I like life and don't want to burn down the house, so... The rest is easy.

NO, because the lines are precharged with refrigerant. They have linesets from 50 foot then 35 foot, then 25 foot & the shortest is 16 foot. My installation is going to use two 50 foot & one 16 foot linesets. We have a 36K with two 9K & one 18K air handlers. Second part of our order will be here today or tomorrow. First time installing an AC or Heat Pump. I am installing the disconnect box today!😊
