DIY Minnie Mouse the Main Attraction Enchanted Tiki Room Ears | Disney vs DIY

May's Minnie Mouse the Main Attraction collection was themed to the Enchanted Tiki Room, and this definitely seemed to be one of the most popular collections yet! The ears in particular are very highly desired, I haven't seen them resell for under $100! I originally thought I wasn't going to do a DIY version of these ears because the primary design is a specific fabric print, but I found a way to exactly duplicate them! In the document linked below, you'll find everything you need to make these ears! It includes the fabric pattern for the ears, trim, and bow, and templates for the bow and ears.

- 4 pipe cleaners

Once again... Emily saves the day!!! I wanted to collect the main attraction ears but i couldn't get my hands on the Tiki Room ears and the Space Mountain ones, the ones you decided to diy! So i made them and you can't even tell that they were diy'd!!! I make ears myself so it was easier for me but i had one of my friends make them (she has no experience making ears) and she said that they turned out perfect!!!

Have you ever tried sewing the fabric that you put on the headband? That way you could have the inside be a different color? As always, love the video and thanks for the template! :)

Haven’t ever sewed the headband itself, I typically keep that part simple!

You could do the same technique I used for the Space Mountain ears, print out the desired image, glue it onto thin craft foam, then coat it in varnish.

@magically Emily do you know if the printed fabric can be ironed? I was thinking I could iron on interfacing instead of using the white fabric.. Also, what is the little stand you use to put your ears on while your gluing the feathers on?

You did a great job with these ears, they look just like the official ones! You probably should have used some dark green fabric behind the printed fabric to make the colour darker.

I tested that and it ended up making the colors much more muddled and discolored, so I went with the white

Would the printable fabric work for the bow, too or do you recommend getting the printable iron-on sheets also?

No, the printable fabric frays horribly and wouldn’t work for the bow. The iron-on allows it to not fray

Yayyy I have no intention of making these but wanted to follow along and love that you used the printable fabric, which is what I figured you would do with this design. Love your taking the pic directly from Disney though. Sheer genius Emily! You lost me a little on the step where you were inserting the thread through the bamboo fabric so I may need to rewatch that part again but this was ingenious and really well done, as expected. Also, was that my imagination or did you add actual tweet sounds when painting the feathers? Haha loved every bit of this!! And super touched that you added the headband template (and bow) into this video and are sharing that with others as you know I recently pestered you about how to make those. So helpful for others wanting to replicate your DIY!

@@yorkshirelassdiaries4841 if you want to make Epcot-style ears, go to Spoonflower.com and look up the Geodesic Globe - Storm fabric. If you just type in geodesic you should be able to see a bunch of different options that work. It took me a while to figure out what other fabrics people were using and then multiple sites listed this one...I ordered it in January to make my own Spaceship Earth ears and they came out looking great. Got compliments from the cast members at Epcot too.

If I had a Cricut it'd be easy to make the ears themselves, but the whole hat and fascinator part is definitely not DIY-friendly, unfortunately

Shannon you could maybe try ordering a mini top hat (or a pet top hat) online. If you cant find a white one you could cover it with your own fabric. Then add the blue ribbon trim to the hat and the pink bow!

How do you keep the ends of the braided trim from unraveling without a bunch of think glue showing??

Great job recreating them! When I saw the design of the original tiki room ears, I was really upset. I went to Disney World last year and designed a pair of custom ears for myself to wear, and the tiki room ears that premiered this year look very similar to my design. I even posted my ears on Instagram while I was in the parks.
