The lumber from the shipping box might come in handy later on.In the 1940's my grandfather worked as a telegraph operator for the railroad. He reused the lumber from shipping crates to make a dresser for all of his kids.I've got one,and it just as solid as the day he built it.

Beautiful wood stove! Wow! I've never seen one like that before! When we were growing up everyone had all kinds of wood stoves. We started by cutting trees on our land as we cleared it then we moved to buying wood. My parents had built a beautiful home by themselves except for the concrete foundation. It took a couple years since they only worked on it during the weekends when he was home. He was a truck driver. It had 35 foot ceilings and a skylight which they regretted lol. That woodstove was huge but it heated the whole house. My dad collected lava stone and did the whole wall and built a beautiful wooden box to hold the wood. My mom didn't want to see bugs...lol We lived in the mountains so every morning it was ice cold!! They switched to pellet stove after we all grew up and moved out and it was amazing. I was really surprised. It heated the entire house all night long and stayed warm even the next morning. It was easy to clean and store etc. I used to joke that they shouldn't have waited for us to move out lolol. Your house looks amazing!

Greetings from Ohio. I believe there is nothing that you cannot do. We have had a wood burner for 40 years and I love it. Yours is the classiest I have ever seen and the most simple. Can’t wait to see a fire in it. Your home is very chic and beautiful and clean and crisp looking.

WOW...I had a Vermont Castings Wood Stove that we bought second hand for our cabin back in the late 90's. That thing wasn't big but it was a work horse...we got a small metal bucket we would fill with water and put on the stove to add moisture when we used it. Also found a used pair of welding gloves to use...they worked great...used a few dried sea rose heads and petals in the water for natural room scent along with some essential oil....great smell...even made some bread dough using that stove...natural bread machine!!!!! Tech for wood stoves finally has stepped up to meet the various demands of homeowners.... :) Cheers from Maine

I like the slow, thoughtful way you work. I've had people work for me who always seemed rushed and didn't think things through, and often the project had to be done over. You're so creative and deliberate. I love the simplicity of this stove. I like the all black, but the white sides suit your home. Your description of the convection, etc is really interesting. All so thoughtful. Thanks for taking the time to show us how you did it.

Doug, y'all have been one of my first KZbin families since the fall of 2018 and I enjoy every minute that I spend with you. Yes, I'm a senior lady who isn't afraid of saying how I feel about my KZbin friends. I am a retired data analyst. I'm 75 years young. A mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother. I am a widow since December 2016. It is my opinion that y'all are very bright, and strong young people. I've noticed that you seem to be losing your self-esteem, both you and Ashley. Please, don't give up on yourselves. I pray God's blessings and strength upon you for the tasks each new day brings. Helen W.

It is your family place, your family project, your rules. It is not my place to question what you do. You explained the process clearly, showing how you arrived at your installation. Drawing ducted combustion air in from outside is very sound. I doubt you would generate a high vacuum, but making the fire burn clean with a good draw could be a real challenge without the vent. Getting the flu outside and breathing without cutting holes in the roof above the living space makes perfect sense to me. You do not want the cooler weather arriving yet to try it out, as there is still outside work to be done. It must be a comfort to know that you are ready for when the colder days arrive. Well done it is another great step along your progress line.

)ne problem with your install, you put the black pipe in upside down. During the winter your stove will leak creosol down the side of the pipe. The crimped end of the pipe on single uninsulated pipe always points towards the stove....

I grew up with a pot belly stove in the kitchen. That thing gave off so much heat we were able to wear shorts in the winter on the first floor of the farmhouse. It didn’t use a lot of wood either which was an added bonus. We had a traditional wood stove in the basement that my dad connected to the air ducts and that one heated the second story. It cost my dad about $50 a year to heat his house.

Oh Dear you will be so happy for everything you've done this summer when winter comes. I think I remember you keeping track of how much electricity/gas etc that you used for heating the first winter, right? Please let us know the difference during next winter. You will be so comfortable in this house, I'm certain... In Europe there's a lot of these types of wooden stoves, and they are very efficient and easy to live with. Your air intake is a little overkill, but you will not have problems lighting your fires... I love everything about your house and the way you guys did it, can't wait to see the finished result with the new roof and climate shield.

Love Ashley's "NOOO! We've never been sponsored." Shame about your holesaw but it looks like the next one up worked well. I do hope you put that screen in the dryer vent to keep the bugs out. Really appreciate how meticulous you are in your work. Excellent choice in stove. Perfect for your application. You really do your research. Interesting how a simple change in engineering makes such a difference. I've have had to take apart and clean stove pipes through the ceiling in the past and would have welcomed a clean out through the wall! You have certainly thought this through. Kudos! Take care and God bless.

I had put marble behind mine with cement board but seeing now this doesn't do radiant heat I understand. That's a cool little stove and should roast you guys out in winter.
