DIY Mosaic tile sink | Bathroom sink makeover

the result looks great. I'd give some advices on the choice of materials. First the grout: there are specific grouts that are resistant to abrasion, chemicals and water. They are called epoxy grouts. About gluing the tiles to the sink with glue: I wonder if it will last for years, being it exposed to water. I would have used the epoxy grout as adhesive. Maybe sanding the sink before applying the tiles would help too, so that the surface is not smooth.

@@aminaiddir1991 hi, just as a warning I'm an amateur and I haven't used those grouts yet. But I've done a lot of reading and research on materials and I've seen that there are these grouts that are used for surfaces that are exposed to water and chemicals, like in swimming pools, kitchens, etc.. They seem to be very resistant

@@aminaiddir1991 2 products that I noted down when I did the research: Mapei Kerapoxy Litokol Starlike Grout I remember that Mapei has other epoxy grouts. Look for the document with the specifications of the product that I have indicated. They write if the grout is resistant to water, chemicals, mechanical stress, if it doesn't stain, for which type of mosaic materials is suitable, etc..

Tiles are a lot easier to cut on a pre-determined line if you score them well first, in case that helps anyone. Then you don't need to nip them really. You can just snap them and they'll default to the deep score you've already made. This is what stained glass artists do all the time and it works! Lovely sink, Summer - what a great project...

I already tried the vitrail technique on mosaic tiles and it didn't work. It's not the same materials.

Great color choices Summer! So a year out, how's it holding up especially around the drain? I am at the final stage, about to grout and doing almost the same as you (just found your vid, wished I had so sooner!) as I couldn't remove the fixtures before doing this. I am most interested in how you grouted around the drain? Did you just mud over it and wipe around the circular edge until it was even and clean?

I love to mosaic but hate the grouting part for some reason. I’ve had the grout ruin my beautiful step stones etc. looked great til i grouted. So I often fit pieces up against each other, no grout. Because......I can. July 2020
