I use a tooth brush and a sardine tin . I take my chain off once a month and boil ' hot oil ' it in oil cleaning with kerosene first . Takes about 30 min total . I still have a chain on a A65 with 20-k miles on it . I use gear oil .

There is far too much oil making the outside of the chain very wet and will attract lots of dirt causing extra wear. The oil is also too thin and will fly off the chain before entering the rollers. The oiler should be on the inside of the chain so the lube will pass through the chain. The idea of a home made chain oiler is very good but needs finishing.

If the oil flys of how can it wet the outside of the chain to much and attract dirt ???

Oiling the outside of the chain, just let's it fling everywhere and NOT penetrate the chain or links......................You will be making a large mess, but not accomplishing very much other than flinging oil everywhere on your back tire. Put on the underside of the swing arm and aim to the inside of the chain, centrifugal force will pull the oil through the chain and into the rollers and links.

Although the oil should go on the inside of the chain, good idea of how to use the spade connectors to restrict the flow of the oil.

The oil is not viscous enough, it will fling everywhere. I use 80W90 oil.
