That's some ingenuity right there! What I did was install two new wireless garage door openers, and now I just open either door with the app on my phone. I usually open it when I'm stopped at the traffic light or stop sign near my house so I can just pull right in. Stay warm...
@SeanLeonDrumz3 жыл бұрын
I’ve been doing this for years! Best way to open your garages and gates without having to stop the bike and take out your control. I like to wire the switch to an existing button on my bike like the turn signal cancel button or flash to pass button. Thanks for the upload!

Would it be possible to Sauder the garage door button like you did. But Sauder wires to the negative and positive terminals. Run the positive to the highbeam wire and negative to the battery (-). When you turn your highbeams on it would power the garage door opener as well as your highbeams and your garage door would open
@LifeontheBlacktop3 жыл бұрын
That would just cause a short. The button is just completing a connection on one side of the circuit. You can buy kits that do exactly what you're talking about tho. I'm positive there's a DIY solution but I'm not sure of how exactly to go about it.

I build these differently. I use a remote that is connected to the headlight hi/low switch or the flash to pass momentary switch. powered by the headlight circuit. install takes less than 5 minutes and and then you program it to the opener.

I almost did this on my touring bike but never got around to it. Do you use a step down converter for the voltage or just try to find a remote that’s natively 12v ? Mine was 3v and then the lazies took over lol

I think this was your most interactive post yet. I was talking you through this the whole time. Two questions- How was the ride today? And Does your new remote switch close the doors? If not you should make one of those on the close circuit and mount it on the other side. That way you have another video for the winter. ;-) Thanks for putting in the creative work. Still think you should make a mystery drone hunt video.

While a small universal remote about the size of a key fob would have been better (my opinion), I've done stuff like this on my bike just because I was stuck in the garage also. 1/2 of the gadgets I've made never stay on the bike. One has to keep the old man skills honed!!! I did make a really kewl throttle lock from the plastic of my old garbage can though :)
@LifeontheBlacktop5 жыл бұрын
I'm guilty of sometimes just riding around town in a t shirt so I don't have anywhere to put a remote. I could stuff it in a jeans pocket but it would probably have a dead batter by the time I got back home lol. That's some ingenuity using an old garbage can for a throttle lock 😂

You northerners are built different; 36 degrees in the garage and you're in a long-sleeve shirt and jeans. Florida Man here, I'd be shivering in a full winter coat. Great video. Do you think there's a way to wire up the opener directly to the bike battery such that there's no reliance on the garage opener battery and the bike battery won't drain?
@LifeontheBlacktop3 ай бұрын
You can buy a kit to do just that. I think most garage remotes run off of a 5 volt battery so if you didn't buy a pre-made kit, you'd need to step the voltage down from 14 to 5 volts with a converter. I'm sure you could find one easy enough on Amazon.
