Make one a storage bench with hidden storage behind, so sitting down to try on shoes, pull on socks or stockings or pants, will be easier, especially as you age or experience anything that might impact your mobility (e.g. an illness or injury.) It's always nice to have a beautiful, padded, place to sit in a dressing room. I'm thinking striped silk and the same cloth glued as wallpaper or wrapped as a padded well behind the bench. Good low sconces, too, for trundling back and forth to the bathroom as night.

Dark colors will not reflect light, making the room always seem dark unless you flood the room with lights - which will cost more on the electric bill. If you like dark spaces, dark paint is fine. If you need a room to be bright enough to see well, go with light colors. Bright colors in a small space can be overwhelming. For example: The previous owners of our house painted a small bathroom an eye poppingly bright coral color that made everything in the room look coral colored from the reflected light and made the room seem small. We repainted in a light-medium blue, and the room looked much larger and the lighting seemed more soothing and less like you were being attacked. One of the bedrooms in our house was painted in dark green on bottom with a dark brown on the top with a wallpaper border across the middle. The room was twice the size of the bathroom, yet always looked small and dark even with two 100W lightbulbs. We repainted the top half of the room a coordinating tan color and removed one light bulb and the room looked larger and brighter than before.

I love your murphy door storage solution! What's the hinge you used on the top and bottom? Side note: dark paint *can* make small spaces feel larger, but only if you color drench the room (i.e. paint the walls and ceiling and trim etc. all the same color) and use a non-glossy paint. The idea is that the walls appear to "recede" when everything is the same dark matte color. I'm not sure how well that would work with the light floor though! You might be better off color drenching in a lighter color. Looking forward to seeing it all finished and painted! Such a creative solution 😍

It very much depends on what color scheme you are using in the rooms on either end of this hallway. You want something that looks cohesive, not chopped up, like you didn't have a plan going in. If you think those doors are "super heavy" now, just wait until you fill those drawers and put things on those shelves. You'll be lucky if the heavy duty grand piano hinges you hopefully used don't come down. I much prefer the soft look of the long, elegant drapes, but you do you.

Good use of space. If you have kids it would worth locking the shelves in place at the top to limit access. Kids hide in house fires so keep them out. Colours for painting. The wall paint continued over the units will maintain continuity and feeling of space. Contrast colour or pretty papers on the back of the shelves adds interest without visual interference. Pretty papers can be wrapping/origami paper attached with modpodge and spray varnished for protection.

A white or light ceiling and white trim will make it feel taller and low sheen finishes that don't reflect much light. A dark bold color will work, but keep it low sheen as well. If you keep wood tones avoid cool grays, light or dark, because it will look blue to purple next to the wood.

White paint does not stop the eye, it allows it to keep going so it makes the space seem larger. Dark paint, if you use contrasting colors especially,will force the eye to see more things that stop it from moving beyond, so it will appear more closed in, with more stuff in a smaller space. It will enhance coziness, but you don’t want that in certain rooms.
@craigathonian16 күн бұрын
What a beautiful and creative idea ! You're quite right about darker looking bigger. In color theory Darker colors don't reflect light, since there is an absence of white. So the more white the more bright, which moves objects closer to the eye visually. BUT, with color it can get tricky since there is another word that describes vibrancy, which is chroma. If you pick a dark color that is saturated with color {high chroma}, it can act like a white, so adding a grey tone to any shade will push it back.
@abbylynn887215 күн бұрын

its a small space. you could add dark to the back wall to make it look furthar away but as its such a small space it won't really make a difference just make the space look and feel darker. and as its a closet it will just make it hard to see in there and there are no windows or natural light. keep it light and bright you could also add a large mirror or do a mirrored wall to give the feeling of more space
@craigathonian15 күн бұрын
@ Sorry, i'm retired, color names change every season, but the key note for you is to pick a color before you go to any paint department. Those color chips are made by the devil to drive you crazy ! They can take any one color and make 100's of subtle changes that are only needed by a designer. Also, with this small space any brand that's on sale is good. Quality is needed for large rooms. { Also, when going dark, buy any medium to dark Oop's paint as your base coat. Even better if its a quality brand. Than your choice color will cover much easier.} Keep in mind that the human brain really can't predict when color, light, and room dimensions merge, so continuity with you vision is key. With color choice a medium brown like Hershey's milk choc. bar can look very dark once the room is saturated ...then the light source can make any shade look darker or lighter. Just as light can change a color, other surfaces like the ceiling and floor will change what you see on the walls. Those entire "saturated' rooms are probably using a much lighter color than you perceive. With your hoopla and drive, I'd like to see you do so much more than what your proposing. You have a great opportunity here with such a tight small room that your not living in, SO... go hog wild with creativity & have fun ! Get rid of conventional ways & think outside the box like covering the walls with a fabric and use starch as glue.{easy clean-up if ya don't like it.} A fake leather like Alligator or Ostrich on the walls, drawer, & door fronts... Or a roll of plastic mirror film on the ceiling that can be splattered or smeared with a metal paint to match the hardware. Instead of 1 or 2 ceiling lights how bout some Mini spot lights, one each for each archway would look stellar ! You've got the talent and the adventure spirit that most people don't have, so i'd like to see you keep going with pushing the creativity and experiment. This small space is perfect for this exercise ❣
