I use cinnamon and cocoa powder as a contour. I'm a ginger and so I have SUPER sensitive skin, and I've never had an issue with putting cinnamon on my face, but I would swatch it on your neck before just diving in. I'm just getting over a contact dermatitis rash from tea tree oil (I know it was an allergic reaction and not just due to the concentration, because I also developed a rash on my hands which never came in contact with the tea tree oil). Trust me, swatch.

For olive green eyeshadow you could use olive leaf powder. I have bought 3 small olive trees to harvest the leaves as a medicine, but it'd be perfect for eyeshadow colourant & as an antifungal it'd help keep the makeup safe from mold. I keep them very small in pots as tiny bushes. I dry the leaves in my food dehydrator & then grind them quiclkly into a very fine powder with my coffee grinder. The powder is a beautiful olive green color of course. Though I do this to avoid paying $129.00 per bottle for organic olive leaf capsules without additives (rather than poisonous sprayed olive leaves turned into an extract with nasty additives as well),The powder lasts a long time,is healthy & won't go moldy as an antifungal. And of course its the perfect olive green colour. A small Olive tree can be grown as a small compact bush in a pot & is surprisingly inexpensive to buy. For makeup you would only need a handful of leaves & therefore only one small tree, which will remain small because when you keep pruning it back to branches only being approx 12-inches long for the 1st few yrs, & you keep pruneing the main stem from the time you buy the little tree to keep it short & to make it bush out instead of growing high. It will remain a very small bushy plant for years instead of turning into a tree. I never let it fruit by cutting the baby fruit off, because I just want the leaves, but if you only want the leaves for makeup, you would get the joy of olives to eat also. Or ask someone for some leaves from their tree. Or grow it as a tree, (or keep it as a small bush, & sell the powdered leaves you dont want on ebay. The plants are very easy to look after & take up very little space in a pot & kept pruned.. Hope that helps someone..

Have you ever tried to make your own makeup???
@JudiHodgkin7 жыл бұрын
Shelbizleee. Yes, eye shadows, blush, bronzer, foundation, lipstick and body butter so far. I have no problem with arrowroot powder, but I wouldn't put cinnamon or turmeric powder anywhere near my eyes as they can be major irritants. Oxides are significantly safer and just as natural. I would point you to Marie at humblebeeandme here on KZbin for some amazing makeup and skin care recipes and she has a good video on the pitfalls of using foodstuffs in your concoctions. I would also suggest that you add 0.5% broad spectrum preservative to the mascara or it will start to go bad in about three days and can cause blindness. I also add a few drops of vitamin E to my powder concoctions to stop the flours from going rancid. Marie has a fantastic book called Make It Up that is a really amazing guide to getting started on making you're own makeup. She's also just done a great video on reusing and recycling containers.

woww I've made a few zero waste makeup items before (gel eyeliner, cream blush, brow gel and filler, lip balm/gloss, etc.) but for some reason I never thought about eyeshadow! One question, do you have any ideas of how I could maybe set the powder into a pressed powder form? I don't have any little containers because I used them all up but I do have an empty palette that I'd love to repurpose! :))
@Shelbizleee7 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. I don't know how to make them into pressed powder but ti would be super helpful if I could. I might look into it
@BINCH-xe3kp7 жыл бұрын
I've done some research and apparently a bit of rubbing alcohol works and then you leave it out to evaporate (no one wants rubbing alcohol in their eyes lmao), that or a couple of drops of almond oil
@shadowlustre6 жыл бұрын
Dry pressing just consists of setting the powder in your empty eyeshadow pan, packing it down with a coin [usually a quarter fits] and just use a clamp and clamp down pretty hard. Oil works for keeping it bound together, so maybe coconut oil. You barely want any oil, just mix it together until it's almost the consistency of wet sand.
@ogabby1476 жыл бұрын
BINCH 3000 add 91% isopropyl alcohol to the bottom of the eye shadow pan and put the powder in and add a tiny bit of glycerine or aloe gel to it and then add more isopropyl alcohol to the powder and mix and then with paper towel and a clean coin or any flat object that fits wrapped in the paper towel, press down and then allow about 24 hours to dry, the alcohol will all evaporate. Let Mel now if you tried it out and how it went :)

I made my own mascara the other day with almonds (no skin) burned then like she did it video, crushed them and added coconut oil mixed them and I'm actually so happy with results 😁😁😁. Once my mascara runs (one i already had) out I'm goinv to get a long small glass jar with a metal lid cut my old mascara wand and glue to lid so I can use and refill jar 😁😁😁. (Also it does have a burnt smell but I found after wearing mascara for less than an hour no smell at all)

@Shelbizleee7 жыл бұрын
Not so far, but I think it will work without cinnamon if you're worried about it. You can just mix coco and arrow root (:
@maybedanis6 жыл бұрын
It does, is an irritating substance. It should not be used on the skin and less near to the eyes. Cocoa will produce a similar color, and if you want it redder, you can add a bit of beet or rose petals extract.

I would want to make my own mascara/eyeliner because I can't find a good zerowaste option for it. The best I've found so far would have to be ordered from the US, but that doesn't seem sustainable since I live in Europe. But when I research this, there's a lot of mixed info. A lot of people say that burnt almonds are bad. But doesn't specify why or give any sources to look, and I can't find anything that'd tell me why they might be bad. So does anyone know? Or maybe a good alternative to use instead or almonds or a good European makeup brand that would have a mascara cake or something...? Thank you!

That seems to work. I like dried carrots. That did stay on. Turmeric is nice however it stains like the dickens. I have been really let down by the mascara most of all. I’ve come to decide not to diy things I have no business making myself. I mean, I’m not a chemist, I’m not a food scientist, and neither are most people who make these recipes. I’d rather turn to people who have studied what is and is not safe to put on my face and in my body, and in particular those who’s values align with my own. There comes a point when I have to admit that I’m just not educated in these fields and that I decide to put my trust in those who are.
@yokaironin11976 жыл бұрын
that's nice and all,but if you've already came to the realization that you'd rather not put anything on/in your body that you aren't a 100% sure that it won't do any harm ,you might as well quit using mainstream beauty products. I get you,everyone would think that if they release this and this skincare,makeup,or anything,it must not be a harmful thing,because how could someone do that legally. It's not true sadly. Even tho it's professional,not a DIY,a looot of brands put chemicals and very harmful things in your everyday beauty products (too). Even one's that claim to be natural and organic,still use things like titanium dioxide,which are not too good..so if you want to be aware of these things,you must do some research,i'm not saying you have to become a scientist,like you said,you don't have to of course. By the way most of the things she used are natural,non-toxic,and even if it seems weird to put turmeric,or cocoa powder on your face,it's a miiiles better than the first makeup product you'd see as soon as you walk into a drugstore/makeup store. You gotta experiment and see what works for you. but at least you know what's in it.
