(DIY) Never buy boat steering cables again! 2000 Seadoo Speedster/Challenger Maintenance

Common Sense Maintenance:
Marvel Mystery Oil can be bought at Walmart and any of your auto parts stores.
I like Oreilly's, but you can get it almost anywhere.
I used high-pressure fuel lines from Oreilly's and got my fitting from there as well to make the pressurized hose assembly. Servicing the water separator was very hard, the previous owner applied no oil to the rubber gasket, and man it was seized on there. Never had one on there that tight before and the bracket on these which holds the separator housing to the engine block sheered away. I made the bracket out of aluminum and utilized the stock holes to replace it. Always, always always use anti-seize on a boat especially when you put in spark plugs. And do not forget a little tube of dielectric grease on your spark plug caps on both ends, at the coils, and on the individual spark plugs.

Good Video! For the engine hatch, we replaced the hood shocks.. can now open the hatch alone. In your Drivers compartment is the fuse block The ECU is on the front of the engine facing the seats Have had no issues with the Merc 246hp V6 Optimax 2 Cycle and we hit 50+ on gps in our 2000 Speedster. Oil injection pump still works fine. Did have a reverse cable fail and backed about a mile.. back to the dock LOL! So now we carry a bungie cord with us to hold up the reverse-gate if it happens again on 20 years

I just feel the V6 is so much more reliable than any of the turbo units out there. At least that is what I see in our region. Plus, I think if you maintain just about anything, avoid redlining for too long, and just simply avoid plain old dog'in something out, things should last a long time. After all, last I checked, it is more fun to be out on the water rather than hauling a dead boat to the shop with a blown motor.

Wow, so much incorrect info. The ski pole loosens tightens to slide it up/down. The trunk pins are there to remove hatch without removing bolts. Theres two hall effect sensors for tight steering left right to make up for the bog/wash and speeds up rpms 10-20%.

I'm going to have to create a new video of my 2000 Sea-Doo Speedster twin engine. As its steering cable exits the rear near the right hand pump assembly. Rusted FAST! UHHGG@! Anyway i tried what you did for about four weeks from the rear. No good. No good. Now i have a new steering cable and I can not get the rear nut loose. just keeps on spinning round and round. I will let everyone know that has this other steering cable set up that I do how it had to go. Thanks for sharing!

Did you try using PB Blaster first? Prior to Marvel Mystery Oil? It's a Hail Mary Throw but may loose that rust up a bit. Shoot a video and post it in the comments brother so we can help others! Good job and keep going.

We have a 1999 Seadoo Challenger and are having a heck of a time getting the old cable out, the nut in the hull and the half-ring in the back (water side) does spin! I am anxious to see how you get yours out!!

@@lindasteinbock-badgley6751 Did you try using the high pressure method and using PB Blaster over night. Never seen a cable not free up, unless it was submerged for a long time or broken, but that was a 1960's Johnson cable. Never had to take one out.

Man good video, by the way do you have any idea o anybody,where can I get fuel filter,fuel pump estrainer and fuel pump gasket? For my speedster 2002 or any type of parts .tks in advance.

That cable increases your idle speed when you turn the wheel to help with low speed turns.

I recently got a 2000 chalenger 2000 v6 and she smoke a little and smells like gas .. the other bogged out on me when i pulled throttle .. but started up and did it again but idles well

any time something idles good and then shuts down, first is a carb cleaning, then maybe small sensors. Really not much to fuel management. Shoot a video and post it in the comments.

I dont see where you put the oil? In the hose attached to cable?

You'll place the oil in the top of the hose, right after the nipple connector that you attach the air line to. Hope this explains the process a little better for you. @ 8:20 in the video, the brass nipple shown is where you will add the oil. Then plug it into your air line. And, Big Thanks Danny for your most rescent subscription, question and commenting. It lets me know to pay a little bit more attention to smaller details in future videos. Unfortunately, thanks to Chemo, I have forgotten much more than I know and remember. This is why I am making these videos.
