what a sweet gift for sewer. there is some irony that the pincushion does not involve any sewing. Your choice of fabric and trim makes the chair desirable in human scale
@ReneeRomeo5 жыл бұрын
Rina, I simply love this little pincushion! It makes me happy just looking at it. Isn't it funny how the scale of the fabric and trim can make or break a project? I hated to take apart the original but it had to be done... Thanks so much! X Renee

JD Marr, Thank you for the kind words! I also know the length is long but decided that if anyone really wanted to see this made (step-by-step) that it would be necessary. I try to keep all my DIY videos as short as I can without missing steps. I know you'll be able to do this perfectly now. Great project!! Thank you for such a clear video with such easy to follow and so very nicely finished with nothing missed ... all card is covered and all of the fabric with raw edges will end up being well covered or well hidden. I can see this being a very sweet little gift for friends ... Birthdays, Christmas, hostess gift for dinner invitations. This could even be used to sit on the bedside cupboard for putting rings into before going to sleep. I also think that a little girl would love this with a small doll (purchased or handmade) to go with it. A little type of rag doll would be sooo cute sitting on it .... or it could even be used as a fairy seat.

Hi Wedy, Thank you for the kind words! This project really is something you can do for almost anyone. My husband thinks it's cute too! You have so many great ideas for its use - I love them all. I like to call myself a "fit and finish" person because I don't like to see raggedy edges either. I had a whole craft club of army wives overseas making these as gifts for people at home. Such fun! I hope you enjoy making yours as much as I liked making mine. All the best, Renee

Just a tip for small projects that need ironing, but only small parts ... I use my hair hot iron! It works sooo well & is also really easy to do when making small items. It's also great to iron hair ribbons for girls.

@@ReneeRomeo Thanks for a reply. I often sit up in bed and watch tv while doing some hand sewing. This has been a great help, especially when I am pinning things as I can so easily press where I have pinned which helps to have the pieces ironed, mind you, I need to keep a magnet beside the bed to easily find the pins before they find me! :)

@@wendyfay16 You're a g multi-tasker! I have a little magnetic dish that helps with this as I'm stitching on my machine. I can sort of throw them in there and not worry about them finding my toes. If you've never been to a Harbour Freight before, it's full of little gadgets like this.

Can foam board be used in place of the cardboard (matboard), or is that too thick?
@ReneeRomeo3 жыл бұрын
Hi catty2chatty, If you don't plan to install grates over the top I think it's a great alternative. You just need to be crafty to get it to stay put. Perhaps tiny nails for wood trim windows or just a few dabs of hot glue for metal? All the best with your project, Renee

Thanks for dissecting yours & taking the mystery out of the project! I will check out your other tutorials as well &, oh, by the way, I also have a cat named Finn! Hugs from Ireland.

Pamela Henry, You're very welcome and thank you for taking the time to send this nice note! I love this little chair. It's cute and convenient in the sewing room. The cats - O'Sullivan, Kensie and Finnigan (we spell it with an "i" because it turns out, she's a girl) - don't go after this pincushion like they do my others (yay!). We were in Ireland a couple of years ago to tour the 'Great Wild Way' and fell in love with your beautiful country. Hence, the Irish kitty names... We will be back! Give your Finn a hug for me. Happy sewing too! All the best, Renee

I think lace on the back is called an antimacassar, it kept the back of the chair from being soiled by men's hair grooming product. I love your chair
@ReneeRomeo6 жыл бұрын
Janice M, You're so sweet. I had no idea!! My Grandmother had them on her living room chairs and she called them doilies. Antimacassar is much more exotic sounding. I love it! I always love new information. Thanks for watching, Renee

Yes Janice. The men used to wear California Poppy, which was a liquid hair tamer ... and Brylcream, which as the name suggests, was a cream. They left a mark on the back of the upholstered furniture when the men sat there. I guess they were the beginning of hair gel of these days. The Brylcream advertisement slogan was 'a little dab will do ya' ... All well groomed men wore something like these in their hair. I've also noticed that in years gone by, there were a lot more men with thick wavy hair, but it just doesn't seem to be around these days. I wonder if the waves are cut out these days because my Dad had very thick wavy hair. He also used to whistle, but that also seems to be a thing of the past. We've come a long way since those days, but there are a few things that I'd love to see return.

anyone made a pattern??? Having trouble
@ReneeRomeo3 жыл бұрын
EnchantedMermaid, Perhaps using a plastic right angle template will help keep things square for you. It also has convenient measuring tapes on all sides to keep the project the same dimensions all the way around. You can just eyeball the curve of the top of the chair. I hope this helps! Renee
