Chicks are messy. I do use shavings in the brooder but the shavings gets into the waterer and causes another mess. Looks like a great feeder. My husband made me a bucket feeder a couple of years ago. Of course the hens had to sit on top and poop there too. I finally got lazy and I just scatter the feed on the run floor. There is a lot of waste, though. Your solution looks great. I like how the height can be changed too.

Nice work....looks good....My 2 cents is to consider drilling a small drainage hole at the base of the elbow just in case water finds its way inside and starts to pool and clog....otherwise look forward to seeing it in action.

I also have 2 different feeders for my chickens for the reason you stated, if you have a lot of birds, sometimes the smaller one's get pushed to the side and end up eating last. We use the old fashioned galvanized metal containers....they each hold one 40 pound bag of feed. We hang them on a wall underneath an outdoor covred (and fenced in) area. We tried to just have the feeder hanging under cover but birds and squirrels from everywhere were coming in and eating the feed! So we made if so that only our birds could get inside the fenced area and it worked great. Protected from the rain, off the ground and kept away from other hungry animals.

I'm going to keep feeders only in the coop and run, apparently these feeders are rodent proof, but ill find out soon enough, today I was working on the chicken bunker, all plumbing and electrical boxes are in, hopefully Saturday I'm mixing concrete and pouring the top beams of the bunker, then it's waiting for the concrete to cure to start on the roof.

I placed it there temporarily to test with the wild chickens, plans are to put these feeders in the corners of the coop.

@@davesdiversions8078 Height adjustment is for use with the deep litter method, as the deep litter goes up, height is adjusted...I'm going to be trying ways to make a coop easier to maintain.

I'm designing a indoor automatic watering system for my elevated coop it will run on solar and will be 100% sustainable, ill never have to water the chickens again if the design works as planned, and practically 0 maintenance, it will be a very interesting coop when it's done.

We just dump the feed in a plastic bin. The worst problem we have with feed is the rats, squirrels and wild birds. Biolight user 😝😾

you didnt need all the fittings, the feeders would fit better without the heavy angled piece... you should have looked around u-tube for less expensive ways to do it there are hundreds of less expensive ways, and I think you could loose the Lewis out evry 5 mins...

These are all simple parts you can find at any big box hardware store, it's 4 inch pvc pipe, unistrut rail and unistrut 4 inch clamps and no waste feeder kit, the viewer can decide what size they want their feeder or if they want something else, the pvc and unistrut have to be cut to whatever size you want, I painted unistrut and clamps white to make it look nicer, this video is a feeder idea 💡 video.

3.18 is unistrut, this material comes in 8 foot sections, but some places sell shorter pieces, I cut and painted this material to size, I forget not everyone knows what certain materials are. I do the best I can, It's a miracle when I find time to put up a video, I'm always working.

The size cut of the pipe is 30 inches, once you add the elbow it's 36-1/2 inches long, You can make this to fit your space, it doesn't have to be exact.
