I don't normally leave comments but felt compelled to tell you, whenever you move livestock onto your property it will bring predators. So you will need to really prepare for that. A solid floor you can sweep clean on a regular basis. Nesting boxes...roof to protect from hawks, owls and the like. Do some research first ...it goes a long way and saves time , money and work. You tube is a great resource!! I love your energy, smile and good work ethic. The property and home are looking GREAT!!

Chickens 🐓 Scratch the floors to eat no floor is better just sidewalks and roofing A door and chicken wire it’s special for snakes 🐍 etc cause of the size of the holes And Judah needs to be put outside if you plan on having animals He should be protecting your live stock Also Donkeys kill coyotes If you have water out for the coyotes and they become territorial of the water coyotes won’t have a chance they kill hyeneas too 😊 So make a watering hole 🕳️ for the donkeys n watch them KICK 🦵 AZZ 😂😂😂😂😂 Donkeys are the number one defense from coyotes Look it up that’s why you see them Out there alive n well n you don’t see coyotes as much

Hey Simona Property coming along great! On the Chicken coup I would not put pallets on floor, make keeping clean easier. Yes on the chicken wire on inside to keep snakes out of coup. The chickens will need an enclosed area for nighttime and shade. I would dig down into ground a little and run chicken wire below ground too. Yay!

When setting up a chicken coop, it's essential to prevent animals from digging their way in. Some homesteaders choose to dig a few feet down around the coop and fill the area with concrete, or even install a concrete floor. You want a solid structure, not something thrown together. Make sure to research this method thoroughly, as it's not something to take lightly. It's best to wait until you're living on the property full-time before getting chickens. In the meantime, consider taking the time to learn about caring for chickens in a desert environment so you know exactly what to expect.

Totally agree. Research, research, research. I just saw a video of homesteaders, were something got in the coop & ate all their chickens & eggs during the night. And this family is always at home. So very sad. So please take time to research. Also if doing a greenhouse, you'll need a water source close by. Beautiful property & love your hair Sis.🤎

Hey luv, glad 2 c ur staying busy... I think chickens would b better n the late spring, but a fall garden might b nice 😏. U did such a good job with ur trees that if u use the pallets for a garden enclosure u could start planting right away 4 it tiss the season. My gardens always motivate me, seeing the seeds sprout and grow reminds me of Fathers grace and there's nothing like eating what u grow.

GM, Simona, here's my two cents. I don't live in the desert. I live in the rural south, grew up on a farm around all kinds of livestock including chickens. When you build a chicken coop, you build to keep predators out more so than to keep the chickens in, if that makes sense. There are probably coyotes, wild dogs, some sort of bobcat, raccoons (maybe), possums (maybe), skunks (??), hawks, owls and lord knows what else, near your homestead. All of those things will hear one big dinner bell when you set up your chickens. Oh, and snakes eat eggs. With chickens, you have to check every day to collect your eggs, and make sure they are all okay and still living. It's a little work but very fulfilling. I love the idea and not trying to talk you out of it (honestly I'm not). I just think you should be prepared for the other side of raising chickens and build a coop that will keep them safe and out of predators' reach. With that, if you still want to move forward with the coop, I say go for it.

I am currently in process of homesteading myself. One thing I suggest doing is taking a moment and coming up with a site plan and laying out on paper where you would like things to go. Makes things a lot easier when you have a plan and know exactly where everything will be. Plus gives you a view of the bigger picture. It saves a lot of time trying to figure out where to place things.

Hey family! My advice for the water tank since I live this life too lol is to get a connection to the outlet at the bottom and hook the hose up to that so your pumping water from the bottom and not the top and the water pressure will increase that way because of gravity. You live and you learn lol

Agree with others about leaving the floor of any chicken coop dirt, but I would lay down hardware cloth (wire mesh) on the ground, then put like 4-6 inches of dirt on top of it, then a few inches of straw (as bedding). The wire mesh will protect from predators digging to get in, and it should be long enough to come up the sides a little bit so you can attach it to the sides and also protect them from predators that can reach in (mostly a concern with raccoons and skunks, which I don't think are too big of an issue in your area but I'm not 100% sure). If you look around youtube, you will find people doing chicken coops with hardware cloth (or "wire mesh") on the ground on various channels. Some people don't cover the ground and will only cut the mesh into strips and then dig like 12 inches down along where the walls will be then attach it to the sides (no mesh on the very bottom), but others will completely enclose the bottom and even run the mesh 3-4 feet up the sides to protect from predators (especially in areas with many raccoons and skunks... probably not a huge issue in your area, but raccoons and skunks can reach through chicken wire and will grab and strangle birds). The steps you might need to take really depends on the predation pressures of your area, so I suggest you check with neighbors and facebook groups in the area with people who have chickens, and I suggest you do a youtube search "DIY chicken coop" and try to watch for some that use the wire mesh on the bottom. It's not the cheapest of stuff but you can find it at Home Depot or on Amazon. You can build cheap, simple, effective hoops with just some 2x4's, "cattle panels" (wire mesh fencing you can buy at home Depot, tractor suppy, or any farming supply place), and some chicken wire/hardware cloth. Look up "hoophouse"

For the environment you are in I would really recommend elevating that chicken coop. Also putting your “wall pallets” on top of the floor as opposed to the ground. Mesh screen will also be your friend on the sub floor before you lay down the final floor. Lastly the heavy blue pallets are awesome to use but you should try and keep like pallets together while building. YOU CAN DO IT, you’re off to a great start. God speed🙏🏾

Hello. I think you should study how donkeys and chickens get along. I also think you should build both a chicken coop and a green house, only add a water source to the green house. It's great to see the home coming along. Dishes look great, and the campers shower looks great for a doggy bath, the hose is awesome for Judah, unless he has an outdoor bath. Do you have toys for him? Enjoy your meal. Someone that stay in the country on acres says they have gasoline around the places they hang out at to rid the snakes. Others say lye.

You should get yourself some hardware cloth. It’s for chickens, put it on the ground and put it on the sides. Snakes can get through chicken wire and don’t forget about the coyotes that they will attract and they will dig. Also, it gets very hot in Arizona. They will need shade and maybe cooling if it gets up in the hundreds. And if you leave for snowbirding or something, you’re gonna have to have someone take care of them.

Just a few things: Water tanks need to be covered with black tarps or something to keep bacteria from growing. Also you may want to try filling your water tank on the rv and using its water pump for pressure. If you’re worried about what’s in the tank you can pour a little Clorox in it before filling it up to sanitize it. I think you may enjoy that a lot more. Finally: You can do anything you put your mind to! But you got to be fully ready and prepare to take on livestock. Don’t let boredom send you down that road until you are locked in. Watch as many KZbin videos as you can and think on it. It’s rewarding once the system is fully setup. But ask yourself. Are you ready to get a snake out of a chicken coop? Possibly twice a week. Are you ready to fight off wild dogs or who knows what. Love the channel and keep up the good work!

If you lay the wood directly on the ground, it will be suseptible to rot and termites. Maybe put in a cinder block border around the perimeter to avoid this. Put your nesting boxes up around 4 feet to deter critters and be sure to put roosting sticks at different levels inside the coop. Another helpful thing to keep the odor down is to line the floor with about a foot of hay or straw, that way you only have to clean the coop out about every 3 months. When you clean out the coop you can save the straw and chicken manure in a pile to use for your garden. It takes about a year to mature. 😊

30 year chicken owner here. The only problem with that floor is that you need a way to rake out the poop. Lots of poop. So you could use a pallet for the coop floor but raise it up so you can rake under it. Then you would not put a floor on the "run" part of the coop. Yes, you can leave your chickens alone for a couple of days. We do. We make sure they have plenty of food and water. Make it predator proof, sides, top and bottom and you'll be good.

Hi Simona. Love watching your videos. Love it when you and your husband are together lovely couple♥️. Just want to say please please perhaps get a high chain fence that has also a cover for your chicken coop incase coyotes any predators try to eat or kill them. Now snakes and scorpions is also dangerous I would hate that you bought your chickens and wasted all that work and they get killed or eaten. I’m sorry to say this. The only answer I can give you advice are the coyotes I suggest a high chain fence and top for protection and make sure the coyotes can’t reach for the chickens that they are not so close to the fence have the fence wider and higher and they need shade as well. Please excuse my typing I don’t have my glasses. Lol♥️

Id say the green house is easier to start, because of the critters that r attracted to the chickens plus their upkeep. Ive seen chickens kill a snake, they are going after the eggs not the chickens. You do have to do so much more for the chickens vs the green house. But Im here to support whichever your next project is!!! God bless you!!

Watch videos of what you want. Either one takes time and planning. You are building girl. Find those gloves.....Sending good vibes....

Chickens like to scratch and have dust baths..you don't want or need a floor. To secure pen from Predators I have seen other KZbinr homesteaders put wire down in the ground and then cover it back up with the dirt.

Dig around the perimeter of the chicken coop and about 12 inches deep as close as you can to the outer walls. Then place rocks, boards, etc as an underground barrier to keep the predators from digging under the walls and getting inside of the coop.

Chickens like to scratch around I would not put that pallet floor in because you’ll have to clean the chicken crap all the time off of that. Make sure you have a good roof and nothing for predators to slip into because they will. I’ve been raising chickens for seven years now you could put a dirt floor and put hay in there for them to scratch around in and make sure you something for them to roost on. More of a 2 x 2 perch, not just sticks. It will hurt their feet. Snakes will take the eggs and they will get in there. You have to make it predator proof I would Google about that.

Wherever you put your coop put a tree to grow over it. Your chickens will thank you.

You need chicken wire along the parameters of the floor to prevent predators from digging under the coop.

Do the greenhouse first, then add the chicken coop onto it later on. You really don't need a floor on either of them, definately not the chicken coop. Anyway, whatever you decide, just have fun with it.

It looks great. Buy some snake away from home depot. Put it around the parameter of your property so they won't even come inside. Mothballs work as well.

On the front end, suggest using your downtime to visit or research homesteads with everything you want in that environment. It could save you money and time on the back end.🤷😊

I think you should do a big green house so you can grow vegetables, even grow watermelons, cilantro and anything that is green, even more fruit like strawberries, you already have water so that will be good and don't forget to do windows with screens too for air flow it will help. Just research it and so you get more ideas just using that wood that you have, you'll be surprised.🏘 Stay safe and blessed.

Why not build both !? 🙏❤ I'd keep the floor dirt so you can rake it out and use those birds for making compost. Chicken wire on the outside all around and over the top. I'd bury wire all around the sides as well to keep predator's from digging and going under. Stay blessed !!

Sis! Love the video! The chicken coop got me thinking about when I grew up in NC and my Grandma had a chicken coop and I had to go feed them and was scared of the rooster! So I would just throw the feed through the mesh wire and run! 😂😂😂

The coop should be like Fort Knox. Make it very secure, coz its so sad when a predator gets in. Look for hardware cloth to use. They like privacy when laying eggs. I'm sure it'll be a gorgeous coop ❤

Hi Simona, and everyone, Happy Monday!!! I’d say a Greenhouse because AZ has a heap of predators that will be attracted to your homestead. Just my little two cents, Hope it helps…

Maybe you should start with a greenhouse Simone and tell your husband is home full-time with you to start the chicken coop. Because sometimes when you're raising animals and like at night you know how different animals come and try to get in the chicken coop you might hear that and want to go out there and you shouldn't be going outside at night like that by yourself so I think it's best that you start to Greenhouse first and your chicken coop when your husband is home on the property full time just in case you guys do have to go out and check on things with your chicken coop just an idea just saying.❤

Hello there I think first put up a full fence so no other animals come after your chickens and just hay on the ground and reuse those pallets and put down some wood then get a chicken fence which is cheaper please in ox me personally if you can so I can learn more about homestead in Arizona . Thanks God bless.
