Good Job! A couple of pointers. I would use a regular 1/2 in wrench to loosen the oil cap. Get a deep oil pan without cover to avoid splashing. Use Porsche grease instead of oil on the oil filter gasket. Cover the air intakes after removing the housing, you don’t want anything dropping into the air filters and having to remove the rear bumper.

2012 911 3.4L no need to remove fans, just loosen the fan deck, move up spoiler, and oil filter is easy access with 6 inch socket extension 36mm cap easy/fast removes the oil filter. Suncoast Parts DE excellent genuine parts, FYI filter was $16.00 with shipping and all filters come from Austria, or Germany, no fake parts. Also, found to loosen oil fill cap, never leave it open, crazy how stuff can fall in there. Thanks for video!

Good video. BTW- You made me cringe when you removed the engine oil filter cap, you used a torque wrench. I was taught during my aviation maintenance training days that you should never 'break torque" with a torque wrench. Doing so can put a torque wrench out of calibration. You should have used a breaker bar or a ratchet. Then use the torque wrench to tighten the oil filter cap to the recommended torque when installing the cap.

18-25 ft lbs in reverse wont hurt any 3/8 or 1/2" drive torque wrench. It just won't. But not a bad rule to try and maintain.

Thank you Jason! I didn't do the filters as they were basically new. If I recall correctly, the car had only 3,000 miles so the filters would have been overkill. Also, to remove the rear bumper to do the filter change I would've needed my assistant (aka son), who was off to college... hahaha.

good post, thanks. Just one thing on the oil volume thing; my owners manual states to check the oil with the engine at operating temperature but shut off for at least one minute. Did I hear your engine running when you were checking the level? Oil 'in the system and not in the pan may account for the reported low volume.

A C I have the same in my GT4 so of course I really like that set up. I would do the same if I ordered a T. I really like the Pepita inserts he put on the seats as well. It brings me back to when I was much younger, my first 911 was a 72’ 911 T . The car brings back good memories so I feel compelled to get one. I would miss my GT4 but I feel I would get more use out of the car and ultimately more enjoyment....

Saw your post on rennlist when you finally got your T! Love your spec! Maybe one day! Trying to decide between the red, silver, and white, but after seeing yours, I'm convinced! Do you regret not getting Porsche entry and drive? Any other features that you think you should've gotten? Would be great if you could share your spec sheet!
@alexc7591
@alexc7591 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! I've had entry and drive in all of my cars for the last 6 or so years, and in the past that was one of my must-have options. BUT for the Carrera T I decided, fully aware of it, to leave it out of my build. Why? First of all, it was a nod of Porsche's of the past, which in a way is what the T is all about. Second, I wanted to be more involved, almost reminded every time I had to get the key out, insert it on the left and started the engine that this car is "special". Finally, with a nice color-matched keyfob, I wanted to actually use the key, and not just keep it in my pocket unseen. I can tell you that I got exactly the options I wanted, and not a single regret. Here's the list of options: GT Silver Black Leather interior with T - Pkg, w/ Red Dev. Stitching 7 SP Manual Transmission Rear Axle Steering (LOVE IT!!!) Front Axle Lift (Great for every day usability) Sport Chrono Heated Multifunction GT Steering Wheel Leather Interior Pkg (Incredible all leather interior with red contrast stitching) Leather Steering Column w/ Dev. Stitching (You see it every time right in front of you!) Shifter Boot w/Deviated Stitching (Homemade. I removed the boot and re-stitched in red thread to match) 4-Way Seats (Lighter and extremely comfortable) Loved the look of the Bucket seats, but not very practical. Bose Lane Change Assist (particularly useful at night) Auto Dim.Mirrors Aluminum look Gas Cap (Useless, but puts a smile on my face every time I fill the tank) LED Headlights w/PDLS+ Tinted Taillights (Looks great with GT Silver) Glass Sunroof (LOVE the look of the all-black roof from the outside. Open or tilt the sunroof and the spoiler goes up another notch, almost like a duck tail) Heated Seats Smoking Package (Adds a little covered lid to the otherwise ugly looking cub hole on the console) Passenger side Net (Hey, it;s free!) Voice Control (Another $0 cost option) Model Designation Delete (Prefer the look of just the Porsche name, with no model name) Vintage 911_T Badges (Like the look of the old badge).

Thank you. I had an almost successful first oil change in my 2018 Targa. It was awkward trying to contort my body to get access from above while ducking the huge rear shield/window. The last jug, with only three quarts of oil in it, overpowered the oil fill and dripped all through the engine where it finally pooled on the floor. Stupid mistake, but I was looking through the glass, holding the big funnel with one hand, and pouring the jug of oil with the other. Fortunately I had the air intake blocked with rags! Brake-Clean and some more contortionist arm work had me back in business. Another note... I had bought the trim tool kit from Suncoast. The tools are flimsy and I had difficulty pulling out the connectors. What brand of trim tool are you using? Again thank you for your kind post! Very much appreciated by all!

@alexc7591
@alexc7591 4 жыл бұрын
I let the oil drain for well over an hour. And from the amount of oil it took to re-fill it, I would say it was more than enough time, and definitely more time than what your average dealer would wait for it to drain. By the way, you can see at 9:30 that not a single drop of oil is dripping from the oil pan, so I would say it drained long enough... Would mind enlightening us on what is the most important step that I missed?

Are the wheel ramps required to get access to drain?
@johnholz394
@johnholz394 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, wheel ramps or some other means of raising the rear of the car. (Alex C used 4-inch ramps in this video; I used 2.5-inch ramps (Amazon), and I got 'er done, but 4-inch ramps would clearly have made it easier.) You could probably get the job done with a floor jack, but I'd suggest using jack stands or some solid wood blocking under a suitable support point for safety while removing and re-installing the drain plug.

My 3.4L 911, the entire fan assembly comes off with the fans and you do not remove anything else. Use a 6 inch ratchet extension with 36mm socket and oil cover comes right out. Use a plastic utensil to remove the oil ring, never use a metal tool. No need to touch the cable assembly. 18 pounds of torque is snug, do not over tighten. Place small amount of oil on filter cap and place small amount of oil on new oil ring to seal it. The oil capacity is exactly 5.46 USA quarts, not a drop more. Do this very slowly, add full Mobil one 0-20w 5 quarts oil for Porsche (label from Mobil says Porsche on it) then use single quart mobil oil to add 1/2 quart. Then start engine, let run to temperature. Stop and let settle then check oil. Add only 1oz at a time, with continued checking, if you overfill, you will kill your catalytic converter costing $$$$$$. Mobil oil at Walmart 5 quarts is only $22.00 on East coast. what a bargain!
