DIY: OM642 Accessory belt, Idler and tensioner Replacement:: 2008 Mercedes GL320 CDI Diesel

The GL320 had some noises coming from the engine bay and when I heard them I not sure it was the belt but I could see the tensioned bouncing so I took chance and it paid off.
We fixed it!

Hello. I have mine 2008 gl320 the Ac comprssor it broke done all the peace I did found one in amazon for $169. plus the belt but do you know the part nr for Idler and tensioner so I can replace all of them in same time. by the way your video is absolute helpful.

HI, Sorry to hear you had an issue with the AC! Thankfully mine has not had that one yet. Let's see.. The Autozone part number for the idlers... 231535 Duralast (need two of them) And the Mercedes Tensioner... 642-200-14-70 :: and the belt from Mercedes as well 002-993-42-96-64 . Sorry for the delay in response. Hope your repair project goes or went smoothly!

I got same rubber grinded wool looking substance and can’t figure what is that and mine keep breaking belt on every couple thousand mile

I don’t know for sure what it was. It seems like it was melted belt but it also could have been oil that leaked down onto the belt from the filler cap and the. Got slung to the spots. I haven’t broken a belt yet. And we’ve got a 800+ miles on the new tensioner and idler pulleys. No issues so far.
