It’s so true. All the touch screens and digital and computers in the new cars are just going to make them useless once they stop sending out updates or the touch screen goes bad and the heat stops working or something. Nice work! Ive been thinking about throwing my spare engine into the YJ. I have most of the stuff to build a stroker but I want to use the original engine for that. Deciding if its worth the work to swap the other one in so the jeep still runs in the meantime
@MalarkeyTaylor25 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I’d say Build two strokers. 😂 but for real… it’s not that bad of a job with the 4cyl to get out but the 6cyl is a bit more. Because it doesn’t have as much room to slide forward off the transmission before going up. And you have to lift way over the grille. It’s just a different animal. And I don’t know if it’s worth doing twice just to retain the original block… but I completely understand why someone would do it and i would have the same struggle building a spare engine instead of my original one.

That sounds like a swirl flap movement problem. Some of the newer ones have a sensor on the flap runner that will sense when it’s not moving right. I’d recommend having it looked at, and either disable it or repair it.

@MalarkeyTaylorАй бұрын
It can be tricky. To get them. I have found that running the fuel tank between 1/2 and 3/4 full and taking long drives at a steady speed tends to get them set. If you have too much trouble, though sometimes calling the dealer and asking for the drive cycle procedure can result in a printed instruction sheet. Or it might also be found in the factory service manual for the car on alldatadiy.com. I have found fsm to be very helpful when DIY fixing my own cars.

Drums are bad. This was a quick google AI reply. A typical tolerance for brake drum runout is generally considered to be around 0.015 inches (0.381 millimeters), meaning the total indicator runout (TIR) should not exceed this value; if the runout is greater, the brake drum may need to be replaced. Key points to remember: Check manufacturer specifications: Always consult the vehicle manufacturer's specifications for the exact brake drum runout tolerance for your specific car model, as it may vary slightly. Measuring runout: To check runout, use a dial indicator while rotating the brake drum on its hub. Signs of excessive runout: If the brake drum runout is too high, you may experience brake pulsation or vibration when braking.

Bah, should've found a 4.0L to put in it. Plopped a good 2-barrel (or 4, if you're feeling froggy) and called it a day. Worse fuel economy, but WAY better drivability. Seriously tho, I'd *highly* recommend dumping the belt-driven fan in favor of an electric setup. It's an extra 10-15 hp the 2.5 can desperately use.
@MalarkeyTaylorАй бұрын
Oh we talked about the 4.0L but that would mean transmission transfer case and drive shafts all change with it. Thats way more work than just popping a fresh 2.5 on. My dad is 73 and barely ever goes more than 45mph. So the little 2.5 does just fine. I will look at some electric fan options though. I do feel like the belt fan is so much overkill for this rig.
@akio2589Ай бұрын
@MalarkeyTaylor Fair enough. Aye, you would've indeed had to source an AX15. Do look into the fan upgrade. Relatively inexpensive, but significant upgrade.

I think the threads are M10x1.0 but I’m not sure. I had a bunch of these lug nuts sitting around my shop from something and they just happened to fit. So I didn’t need to go chasing it. I think it’s a common wheel lug size for mid size trucks and SUV.

I am trying to figure out what the Green and black wires coming from the speaker wire on the left door were connected to. IThink it was spliced and going to a green wire in the door that is broken off as well. Fun times. I am glad you explained about the extra tweeter option. After all this, when I buy my new door speakers, I am probably just going to put in a whole new wire to the radio. Thankfully now I know that other conne tion is not important and just would go to that extra tweeter. :-)

Thanks for the reply. Also did you drain coolant and oil for this, or just top up at the end. Does anything need bleeding after
@MalarkeyTaylor2 ай бұрын
@ yes, I drained the oil and the coolant for this. I also ran it for a while maybe 3-400 miles and then changed the oil and coolant a second time to be sure there were not any leftover contaminates. That is probably overly cautious. But at a minimum oil change and coolant drain to do the work. Also, I took the opportunity to change the fuel filter and air filters while it was all out.

I got the same headlight but have had a weird issue. The high beam will not turn on with high or low selected, but the low beams turn on with high beam selected.
@MalarkeyTaylor2 ай бұрын
yeah, I didn't go into it in very great detail in this video. but there are some issues with LED headlights and the Jeep XJ. especially if you have the factory fog light package. They use a confusing complex routing of electric to activate the high beam indicator light on the dash. and because many LED lights use so little electric draw they don't work right. The best thing to do to solve it is to first install a aftermarket headlight relay harness kit (widely available) and in some cases snip the extra wire on the driver side headlight harness that borrows the ground connection for the fog light relay. It's complicated but also fairly easy to find by searching forums and KZbin for the correct solution. Maybe someday I'll do a video on it..
