I like your switch to older vintage clubs Chad. Good first attempt at refinishing an oldie! Scott

Looks great! Don't forget hand work. Files, diamond emery boards (since you've already raided your wife's nail polish drawer), very fine sandpaper glued to an aluminum rod to get into the round corners, finish with 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 sandpaper before a light cut polish for a mirror finish. Also, with some softer metals: a quick application of some direct heat may raise the dents and knicks. Think small blue flame with the tip of the blue arrow on the depressed section for no more than 5 seconds

All great suggestions and will be employing hand work as well. Thanks Bruce!

Thanks John. Yeah, Bobby Grace designed quite a few for Cobra, as did Dick de la Cruz.

Love vintage clubs and especially vintage putters! I have way too many to count at the moment. I have some T. P. Mills, Arnold Palmer’s, Macgregor’s, Ping, and my gamer which is a Bullseye “Heavy Blade”. I’m going to look into restoring them with a dremel like you did. I have the anniversary edition of the MacGregor putter Jack used to win 86 Masters. A little dinged up since it was used but want to try dremel and polish to bring it back. Both of your putters you did look beautiful. Love the videos!

Thanks so much Joseph. Good luck on your restorations. I'll continue to work on my skills and tools so that hopefully I can really churn out some great stuff.

It's amazing how many people start with sandpaper instead of a cutting agent to see what you're actually dealing with first

I would have done it much differently.. with similar tools.. but this is a good video!

I am wondering if a quick dip into CLR would assist with tarnish removal, thereby reducing the amount of physical polishing needed. It works a treat on my Triumph Tigers header pipes that had West Australian Mineral sand stuck on them that would not shift. Just paint it on with an old toothbrush, let it fizz for a few seconds and re rinse it off with water.

For sure, however with this Cobra putter, it had so many dings and dents that deburring and grinding had to be done.

A couple thoughts/ideas ... but you may already be aware. When you are polishing, you are really making scratches. BUT, in the process, you are making the scratches smaller and smaller and smaller with finer grit polishing materials. Start out with more course to get out the deepest scratches and work them down finer and finer. The Dremel may be the best you got but a MUCH better tool for the broad surfaces would be a band sander/polisher. This way you are polishing the full extent of that flat surface at the same time. With a Dremel you can put small depressions in the surface but these may not be noticeable to the eye but they are there. And you don’t want that on a putter clubface. I enjoy your videos. Good stuff!

Thanks Craig! I have been learning as I go, and even before I started, I knew that the Dremel would not be the main go to tool. I believe I will need to invest in a bench grinder and a variety of buffers, deburring wheels, and pads. The deburring wheels for the Dremel have varying "grits" but they get nowhere near "professional" grade. My next step will be to create an actual work space also. I don't currently have a good setup in the garage, so I'll be creating one soon.

Golf Test Dummy Watch this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kH3JmJ2bpp1pnNk. I’m a retired dentist so I’m very accustomed to polishing metals. You might be able to find a used dental lab lathe at a great price. Basically it’s a bench grinder but more ready for polishing. You need those rag wheels, chamois wheels, and those polishing stick- compounds. There may be actual compound wheels you can find too. You can get those metal surfaces so shiny it will hurt your eyes! Don’t use different compounds on the same rag wheels tho; reserve one wheel for each compound in sequence from course to extra fine. A slurry of pumice and water can be used too with the rag wheels. You can purchase pumice in different grades of courseness.

Wow thank you so much for the info! I have a guy across the street from me who does body work on cars and he has been giving me some insight as well. Hopefully I can get a work space and process in place to produce top quality. Lots of stuff on my plate, so one step at a time.

I don't use Amazon or I would. Soaking in Coke Cola can be useful when not wanting to be rough on your project, works very well on Copper

Nice restoration, you’d do well to wear a mask when grinding on those copper putters! The dust is not good for you!! 👍🏼😊
