Dawn, how could we ever get bored watching you point the gable end of your barn or any other pointing come to that. Everything is beginning to come together now with the log store looking so smart and tidy and the water storage moved and covered. Well done to both of you for all the hard work you are putting into your house and garden, its an absolute treat to view each video as it comes out. Thank you.😊
@thecornerhouseproject2 ай бұрын
Awwww thank you so much Zara. It can get boring watching the same think over and over but it is something that needs to be done to move forward. We try to not too much of the exact same thing if we can help it and have other things to show too. The log store, although not finished does make it look a lot tidier, still some bits to do on it, but looking good and keeping the rain off. Thank you so much for your kind words Zara :-) See you next week.
@scottsorby79662 ай бұрын
Ben you've made a top job of the wood store like you say it makes the house look far more lived in. As always Dawn you are returning the strength to that wall inch by inch then stone by stone and the difference to how it looks now compared to how it did look its very clear that now it's not ready to collapse with a raised voice. You are both returning the missing love to the homestead with your care and attention and the land will be much happier for it.
@thecornerhouseproject2 ай бұрын
We have plenty of love to give it. It is all it needs really, that and maybe a bit of work here and there lol. Removing the top stones from that gable will be so much safer now Dawn has put all of the strength back in the lower sections. Hopefully it will be at that point this week. Odd how some pallets make a difference to how a place is perceived, it just looks tidier and has a function, where as the pile of logs before we exactly that, just a pile of logs. Thank you as always Scott for watching and commenting :-)

Hahahaha, Well I said it might be temporary, it has to look level lol. Looking at it now, we will be keeping how it is but maybe change it's location at a later date. We just didn't want to the logs to get all wet again over the winter. Thank you for watching and commenting Jean. I will try to leave the level in the shed next temporary job haha.

Nearly a roof..... maybe haha. The collapsed section inside still needs to be rebuilt and then the top of the walls. Not sure we will get a roof on before winter sadly, but it won't be for Dawn's lack of trying. Thank you so much for watching and commenting Jackie :-)

I just love both of you 🎉. I have a solution to the back of of the ruin take down the stones and make a door in its place this way less work and you can access the back of building. Also you can take your time removing stump when it rots. Also you might whant to cut trees from inside the farmers ruin so it doesn't knock down wall that backs up to you patio. Good luck keep things going your doing a great job I too would have removed all the dirt ❤
@thecornerhouseprojectАй бұрын
I think the wall will be coming down in that area as it’s been pointed about by a stonemason that it’s too dangerous to work on and just repair it as it isn’t tied into the gable very well so come next year it will come down and be rebuilt, which also allows us to tackle the root from the inside as well which should make it easier to contend with. I was thinking the same with the trees in the farmers outbuilding, we might see what he says about trying to take some down.

Just so others know, you're not burning English Ivy ( Hedera helix) indoors. (Are you?) It is *extremely* toxic to humans and animals, i.e. kitties. It is also hard to dispose of in compost as the evil stuff roots easily, even if you chip it. Of course, Dawn & Ben have quite a fine selection of other brush and wood to choose from, especially from the mega-daily clearances in March this year. All that ash tree will make fine winter fires! The wood store is a thing of beauty, Ben. Toss a tarp over the top of the plywood and it should last the winter. Hopefully, it will last a few years for you. Dawn - I can hardly remember the disaster that building looked like even a few months ago. Really, really, really impressive job. I still remain in awe of you working in the constant rain.🧜♀🧜♂Go enjoy being with your daughter!❤❤
@thecornerhouseproject2 ай бұрын
Hello :-) I have just replied to someone else saying a plastic cover might be the way forward as I still haven't got the steel roof on yet. It is going to rain for the next week so not sure when that will get done...... one day haha. The more the dead ivy gets removed the cleaner and brighter it all looks, then Dawn does her magic and it looks so strong. Getting closer to the top now, it is very exciting. With the rain due we are hoping we can create some form of cover so Dawn can carry on. We have a week of rain forecast. We have Googled and Googled and the only things we can find is where people speak about burning poison ivy. We couldn't find anywhere which says not to burn ivy though in Ireland or the UK. I haven't missed your email xx Thank you as always

Hi Wanda. It sounds like you have somewhere to put yours... ours was becoming just a pile of sticks and lumps of wood that had no place, hence finally the log store. Ben, right respectable looking Wood shed! Dawn, you are becoming quite a stone mason. Well done guys!
@thecornerhouseproject2 ай бұрын
Hi Ed, we hope you are well. Things are looking quite good aren't they? Even if I do say so myself. It is nice to be able to have a real place for the logs and coal etc instead of this space or that space. I think Dawn could do lime work for the rest of her life lol. Thank you so much and as always Ed for watching and commenting :-)

Great job on all 3 sections you were working on. Kitty Club seems active, your daughter will love seeing them all.

The cats seem so happy. They are either on their own or in a group, normally up to no good haha. We thought Peaches would be hidden up for the weekend, but she was the one who came in for a fuss, Alan let us down I am afraid Tracy, we thought he would have been the brave one around strangers. Thanks for watching and commenting :-) :-)

My mum grew up on a farm just outside Leitrim village, her parents, 10 children and granny and, for a little while, five orphaned cousins as well, lived there and thrived. My cousin owns the farm now. I love watching your progress in resurrecting your old house. 🇦🇺
@thecornerhouseprojectАй бұрын
I think at one point there were 14 people living in this house. Maybe not all at the same time as the older children left home. It’s a lovely place Leitrim, quite untouched really and we absolutely love living here! ❤️

Love the music and composition Ed. I just ordered a tote cover, I didn't know they existed, so thanks. Lovely pointing Dawn, you will be hiring yourself out as a professional soon,. ;) . great little pallet lean-to, another source for water collection, would look great with a plant box or two on top or even an experiential rooftop garden. You are getting to personalize and add your character more to the outside now, which from the look of you both, makes you proud and happy. Love your skull leggins Dawn! Just to let you both know - I'm visualizing the farmer selling that outbuilding to you two sooner than later, I figure it will be a nice little jite for me to stay in when I visit.

Hiya Sharon :-) The IBC which had no cover originally wasn't nice at all after the sun had been on it for a good while, the others with the covers were fine, I was just waiting for the right time to clean them all out, move them and get them covered. It makes the world of difference to the water staying clear and inside of the IBC too. I just noticed another comment said Dawn could hire herself out, what a great idea. That is some good ideas with the roof. Gutter being added is something I want to do and just feed directly into the tank which collects from the barn, the flower boxes or even rooftop garden, now there is a great idea. We do hope so Sharon..... maybe one day it will happen :-) Those are Dawn's favourite leggings :-) Thank you for your lovely comments Sharon :-)

Dawn, just want to say I'm so impressed with your lime pointing; I wonderred if that shed could be saved, thankfully you've proved me wrong. Wonderful wood store too Ben, great use of wood pallet. Well done the two of you.

It was a horrible shock when the roof came down last year and we saw the damaged walls inside. We didn't think we would still be working on it now but it is getting done. Not sure a roof will go on this year but we will try. Dawn's constant hard work on it is paying off and looking great. It would have been such a shame for the logs which have been drying out so nicely all summer to have spent a winter getting soaked again, it has also tidied that area up really well. Thank you so much for watching and commenting Jill :-)

Great work all around. The pointing makes such an improvement, it’s a shame it needs to be whitewashed, but when you’ve put so much effort into pointing protection is important. The wood store is also a big step forward, now it just needs a water tight roof. Pallets make great building material.
@thecornerhouseprojectАй бұрын
Yeah it is a shame to hide it all but it’ll look beautiful all gleaming white with a new red roof, so I can live with that ❤️

Beautiful stone building pointing is brilliant Thing j worked out for me here in County Tyrone to keep my logs drying where the sun moves and away from shaded area when you plan to put a roof on the stone building thankyou ❤ log store is kool get some old corrugated tin for the roof and tie it down with bull wire stop it blowing away you could get a job cash for pointing old building's
@thecornerhouseprojectАй бұрын
We were hoping to use some of the old tin off the fallen roof but it is so rusty in so many places 😔 in time we will definitely get some tin on the roof of it though.
@deranocasperАй бұрын
@thecornerhouseproject If you are near omagh if anyone get you decent tin at 50p a foot, it's second hand but it's really good

Oh my goodness, Ben and Dawn! It does my heart good to see that you are reusing discards and making a difference in the earth! BTW, I’m not one of those climate /environment thugs, but I love to see normal people doing what they can. The end of the building is gorgeous and I know it’ll be even better! Those vibes at the top give it such a cool look lol!!!Love you guys! See ya next week!!

We aren't the eco warrior type either but it is nice to be able to use materials that have either been removed from the house such as the timers or used before like the pallets. The ivy vines will be gone soon enough and the wheelbarrow I filled last week with them have already been burned to keep the house warm :-) Thank you as always for watching :-)

@thecornerhouseproject2 ай бұрын
Hi Maria Yes, that is the plan with the trestles. There are 3 planks on the very bottom level at present and Dawn can then put 2 above that on the next level before the big guns come out with the scaffold lol. The trestles are too wobbly to be messing with big stone with. Thank you and thank you again Maria :-)
