I have been busy building a camera jib for a few weeks now with constant changes. I love the engineering challenge as I imagine a lot of people do. I finally got it together and I had made one bad in it which was that when I raise the jib, the pan and tilt did not compensate for the change in "roll" angle with raising and lowering the boom. My son pointed out that what ever the camera is mounted on, needs to stay perpendicular to the fulcrum. I understood this at once and thought how silly that I missed that. Of course..and so I had to add that second rod with a pivoting attachment at the top end to which I can fit the (gimble?). Now the camera remains perpendicular when panning and tilting.

Hey pastor Carl i have two questions. 1. What is the easiest way to drill holes through the EMT conduit and pulleys, its taking me so long to do it and alot of hard work! What method are you using? 2. What are you using to Cut The EMT conduit? What is the easiest method?
@cntenney8 жыл бұрын
Hey Kay Jay, 1. I was fortunate to have a small drill press. Although I did have to use a hand drill when I did some things at the church. I would suggest using a small bit for the initial hole and then the bigger drill bit after you make your first small drill though. Yes it is a lot of work, but worth it it. 2. I used a hack saw and elbow grease. Yea I hated the cutting.

by the way, I have come up with a better swivel head than in this video. Have you purchased the lazy suzan already? If not I would suggest getting a tracter bearing I found and mount it to a speaker mount that fits on a speaker stand. you need one of each of these. But the are far superiour for a swivel mount than anything else I used. www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pair-of-PA-DJ-Tripod-Speaker-Stand-Mounts-Speakers-External-Adapters-/251866091071?hash=item3aa4638e3f:g:q5UAAOSwRLZUFywc and bolt that to this and this will fit on your speaker stand nicely. www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=UCF201-8+1%2F2%22%22+Square+4+Bolt+Flange+Block+Mounted+Bearing+Unit+FK+Brand&_id=111600732385&&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2658

Thanks pastor, i have not yet purchased the suzan yet, i will get the tripod mount tomorrow!

I think you will like those far better. If your going with a music stand for your tripod. Watch on Ebay, I actually got the stand and the mount for $20.00 but you have to keep your eye open on ebay.

Hi Kay Jay, I was just checking in on how your build is coming?
@DallasKruse9 жыл бұрын
Do you have a link to the bicycle cable/housing? How'd you attach that to your metal panels?
@cntenney9 жыл бұрын
+Dallas Kruse I do not have a link for the bicycle cable. Sorry I got it at a local hardware store. As for the metal panels I am assuming you are talking about the ones where the bicycle cables stop at. I used sheet metal screws to attach those to the pole.
@DallasKruse9 жыл бұрын
+Carl Tenney OK. Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to figure out how you assembled the bicycle cabling :) Cool idea. Going to try to add this to my jib tomorrow.
@cntenney9 жыл бұрын
+Dallas Kruse The angle plates I drilled and then used self taping sheet metal screws and screwed it to the jib. They are needed to keep the cable housing in place so it doesn't move with the cable. If you cannot find the cables locally try looking on Amazon.com. I am happy to answer any other question you may have.
@DallasKruse9 жыл бұрын
+Carl Tenney thanks so much! I'm going to a bike shop tomorrow to buy some housing and cable. And getting the cable housing to attach to the metal plates that are attached to the L Brackets? ... I imagine the housing needs to stay in place and tight so the cabling can run smoothly through the housing. With the cabling/housing that you bought, is there some sort of end pin or end screw adapter that you were able to connect to the fabricated metal angled plates?
@cntenney9 жыл бұрын
+Dallas Kruse The ones that I bought had those metal end caps. They help but not absolutely necessary. It sounds like you have the right idea. Good Luck

Pretty cool that you built this for church. But why not buy one thats already built? I built a jib before but then ended up just buying a 4ft glideshot crane jib. small but enough for what I do.
@cntenney9 жыл бұрын
+Sillo85 Koziatin Thanks Sillo I will actually be doing a second build as we are building a booth for our video ministry to match our sound booth. This boom jib will be remote controlled on the pan and tilt and I found a better bearing system for the pan at the tripod point. A jib if purchased would have cost me about 8 times as much. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Pastor !! Impressed with your innovative simple machine. I can imagine the creative satisfaction you derived especially when its made for church. Intelligent machine, intelligent creator. I am also researching to make an innovative machine beating my own which I posted day before.

Everett I found a better thing to use for the swivel base than this. I will send you the info some time later this week. I found a bearing that I think is much better than the lazy suzan, I used here.

Hi Everett, I tired to see if you had contact info on your yt page, but you didn't. If you have not started yet can send me an email. I would like to talk to you about a 2nd version that I built that I like much better. 10eproductions@gmail.com

Or at least be sure to read the notes and reply I sent to Kay Jay a month ago. In my reply I sent him link to what I used to replace the Lazy Suzan mount. It is a much better mount.

Hi Capo, Just got on your site and took a peek at your video, you do nice work. I appreciate the offer and I am honored that you would ask, but I am a pretty busy guy. I was trying to see where you are located, as I would think that shipping a 10 foot pole would be cost prohibitive, and defeat the DIY concept. Just a thought, I certainly would happy to coach you if you needed it. Are you good with your hands? It is my guess you would be just judging by your video work. For this project you would need a drill, but a drill press would be even sweeter. You can get by with a hand drill though and you will need a hack saw and a bolt cutter to cut the wire cable. You could just buy a 1" x 10" board about 2' long and cut it with a hand saw if you don't have access to a circular saw. So the tool list isn't a huge list. Of course some screw drivers and a socket set or some wrenches to tighten nuts and bolts. Do you live here in Rochester or in MN? Email me if you want to talk about it some more. 10eproductions@gmail.com Thanks for watching, You had to have gotten a big laugh at me in my Mr. Rogers Sweater I certainly laugh at myself. Carl

we've just been rebuilding one here, but never use in a church because most of the pastors here think it overkill It's taken 5 years to allow us to use a track dolly
@cntenney9 жыл бұрын
+Gordon Pilcher I have the parts to build a remote control and am going to redesign this one. We are extending our booth out to include the video stuff. I intend to mount a permanent boom jib on the booth. but it will be a little more sleek and no where near as many wires. All inside. And it will handle a heaver camera. I have some neat ideas for the remotes so you can avoid wires and such, should you decide to build one send me an email and I would be happy to talk to you. Did you catch the DYI on a pan & tilt I just loaded Friday?
@MrPilcher019 жыл бұрын
We don't set up permanently we film at church when they have a guess speaker at Our fellowship the Pastors aren't keen on having each service videoed We have a tilt pan head

+Gordon Pilcher that is cool. Interesting ideology. I approach it to get the gospel out every way I can. But hey as long as we are listing to the Lord who am I to say? Well Gordon if there is anything I can help you and ultimately the Kingdom work with I would be more than happy to help.

Life's Good Thanks for the encouragement, It will take some time but I am putting together a whole system that will have 4 camera's and two jibs with remote control pan and tilts. It will take quite a while to get it on and how to build it step by step, because I am a Pastor too and Very Busy. But it will happen. Thanks and for the encouragement.
