Oh wow, a very deceptively 'simple' build. I say simple, but that's only because you made it look so easy. The final photos with the colour corrected in the video look absolutely brilliant - can't believe how effective some of your procedures are - the wood effect on the walls is amazing. The whole Captains Cabin looks like a very complex feat of engineering - and should it have been made out of real seasoned wood, you've no doubt built in enough structural integrity that it would hold itself up in RL. Fabulous, well done xx
@BentleyHouseMinis5 жыл бұрын
I am so glad you enjoyed the build! I think because I went though architecture school it is ingrained in my head to make sure things are "structurally sound" or at least look that way lol!

Not that I ever doubted you, but this is so much "more" than I expected! "Pure Genius" may seem to be overstatement, but it is darned close to the fact. As with most of your projects, I have trouble deciding which is more entertaining - the process or the result. While watching you create, I get impatient to see the finished product - and then when I see the finished product I want to see more of the creative process. Yeah, I know..............I bit schizophrenic of me, huh? Fortunately you don't have to put up with me, you can just "turn me off' - a luxury those around me lack! Thank you and I look forward to the Addams Family Marathon!
@BentleyHouseMinis5 жыл бұрын
Thank you George! To be fair I am the same way. I get very impatient during the process and then I want to skip to the end to do the finish touches. Unfortunately making things by hand doesn't have a fast forward button lol!

Wow Ara! So glad I watched this (I've been busy). But this is amazing. I can't believe how well it has all come out. You aging really looks good. Who knew it could come out that realistic with just paint! And this video highlighted how well the exterior wall treatment you did with the glue came out. It really does look like wood! I am doing some paneling myself in my glamping trailer, but it will be all white (or maybe blue) and neat. This video has me rethinking my process though. I was building up the paneling in layers. Your method of using just 2 layers looks much better. Any tips appreciated!
@BentleyHouseMinis5 жыл бұрын
I am so glad you enjoyed the video and the process Heather!! You definitely can get some really cool effects by layers papers but this is the simplest way I know to do it lol. I have also scored matboard and pulled up the 1/8" pieces. I definitely prefer this way after trying both out. I think it keeps the cuts more accurate.👍 I'd love to know your method too! So many different ways to do things in minis!

I’ve seen movies where the window seat had a “comfort seat” for the captain. It’s basically a private toilet hole with a lid.
@BentleyHouseMinis3 жыл бұрын
oh wow... great idea... I will have to look up some references!
@zuitsuit803 жыл бұрын
@@BentleyHouseMinis I’m having a hard time Googling a reference, however, I remember that it is a feature in the first season of AMC’s The Terror about the famous Franklin Expedition. It’s a hidden “outhouse” hole under an upholstered lid that matches the rest of the window bench. No curtain. Apparently, old sea captains weren’t that modest in front of their crew. Haha!

Do you think a quilter's rotary cutter would be helpful for a project like this?
@stonespebbles60614 жыл бұрын
Those exact-o blades are SO HARD to use haha
@ilexx31464 жыл бұрын
I love the direction you are going, but my only criticism would be for period-ish accuracy, especially with the fine details, those interior walls would be glossy from being waxed or some sort shellac. No Captain worth his salt would have rough timber in his rooms, especially if they are going to be paneled.
@BentleyHouseMinis4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the input! I always like to hear suggestions, esp one based in facts and history! However for this project I am giving myself a bit of leniency because he is a time traveling Captain and I am not quite sure which decade he is actually from yet ;) It's interesting to hear about how the wood would be in the cabin👍
@ilexx31464 жыл бұрын
@@BentleyHouseMinis That's why you'd have like a cabin boy valet dude to take care of that stuff for you. Pour your grog, feed the monkey, put hot bricks under your covers to warm the bed. Polish the walls, fetch your food from the galley. ;)
@cheryl82804 жыл бұрын
You do some of the most fun pieces ever. I even think I could do some of them. But, may I comment on your music choice? You voice is perfect for the tutorial and completely understandable, but..............the music drowns you out. Also, it sounds like it's on a loop. It's supposed to be spooky halloween music? Hope I didn't offend anyone with my comment. Can't wait to see many more videos from you, because this one is definitely bookmarked. Lucky captain to have such an elaborate suite!
@BentleyHouseMinis4 жыл бұрын
Constructive criticism is always welcome here Cheryl💖 My music choices have def changed over the years and every now and then I will put one out where it's over powering. I have been doing more and more with just my voice (which is scary to an introvert like myself) but my confidence has grown a bit ;) I am so glad you are enjoying the project!

I know this is probably a weird comment, but how much money do you normally spend on foamboards.
@BentleyHouseMinis4 жыл бұрын
Not very much. The dollar tree has them for $1 a piece and I can get several walls from 1 piece. There is a higher quality board called gator board that is more expensive but I haven't tried it out yet.

Call me stupid but I got to ask a stupid question but it's been puzzling me for ages now I'm brave enough to ask. What does dry brushing mean and how do you do it please?
@BentleyHouseMinis3 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all. Basically you get a little bit of paint on your brush and then wipe it on a paper towel or something like that to get the paint most of the way off. Then brush it over your piece and it will just get the slightest amount of paint on the raised surfaces. I hope that helps!
