My first love, for sewing is making my own bags. I have made several cross body bags because that's my style. Drove me nuts buying purses that were ugly, not my colors, fell apart too soon, not enough pockets, and were not easily washable. So, when I got my first sewing machine, new and unique bags were my life before I began making garments for myself. One thing I learned too quickly when making sturdy bags is that those industrial sewing machines are a joy! My sewing machine was only a few months old when I started drooling over the Sailrite! Industrial machine is the goal for me as I keep learning. Having the Brother Strong and Tough now is good, but that Sailrite would definitely be a game changer! I even love the way it sounds, so I am always thrilled when you include that in your videos. I've made most of my bags and other projects from scraps, so I felt a kindred spirit when you said you weren't into that "puzzle" aspect of this creation. That's always been the "I need several breaks" time for me because I want to scream and quit. My last bag had over twenty pockets. I was practicing different styles of pockets and many pockets within pockets. I thought my sewing machine would fall apart. I got to practice hand sewing those thick seams. Making garments with my new Brother has given me some peace while planning my next bag, probably using Ankara fabric and denim. Your video was so much fun. Teaching myself to sew has been a struggle at times but, like you, the end result is wonderful! I hope you make another bag soon so we can see you apply what you learned and would do different. I know I learned a lot and saved all my bags - even the first two that were horrendous. I can't believe I used them in public, they were so awful. Thanks for sharing. I will be telling everyone about this video who thinks I can whip up a bag for them in no time. It's work! Especially without an industrial machine.

Love the backpack-especially that you used the pockets and zippers already available on the garments. Bias tape has always been my nemesis, however, I have found that hand basting has helped me manage it better. The hand basting takes more time but it saves time in the end because you don't have to tear out and re sew.

Great idea making little snips in the rounded corners! If still having trouble, try 2 rows of basting stitch like you would to ease in a set-in sleeve. With the iron-in bonding, it's not going to be as easy due to the thickness, but it's another method that may help ease in the seam around those rounded corners. Sometimes, when I have trouble with things like that, I will even get out my needle and thread and do it by hand before I put it on the machine. Sometimes, I find tricky curves slip on the machine, and if I do a quick and dirty hand sew, it keeps it in place so I can get it right. I've done this before making purses out of thick denim and other very sturdy fabrics.

Loved the way you did the lining! I've never been able to master the bias tape thing so I would probably end up hand sewing the 2nd side so I could get it to lay right. This is a very ambitious project. For beginner sewers, try making a tote bag or shopping bag first so you can get a feel for the sides and corners, and how to inset a zipper in the top. You said 3 days. Frankly, it would take most people 3 days at a minimum because sometimes you just need to walk away and come back to a project like this, AND managing the rest of your life takes time too!

I am prepping to go back to school for masters end of this month and in doing so I told myself to let go of clothes I don't wear as much any more so I can build a fresh wardrobe based on the kind of styles and aesthetics I've grown to like over the years, but I decided to keep as much denim as I could because as part of my back to school wardrobe, I want to make myself a denim laptop bag based on this tutorial, I even made sure to hold on to an old and damaged laptop bag of mine to harvest additional accessories from it so that I don't have to spend any money on zips and the like (the creativity that is born from brokeness lol). I want it to match the outfit I'm hoping to whip up for the day I travel out of my country for school, because who says your girl can't be stylish and comfortable for the journey lol. Fingers crossed this comes together the way I hope it will✌️✌️🤞🤞🤞 otherwise thankyou thankyou thankyou for this Angelina, you've been a big style and sewing craft inspiration for me since I stumbled upon your channel early in my tailoring journey during peak covid of 2020😊

I really like this!! I love the denim patchwork elements and incorporating the brand labels in the finished piece. My daughter is crazy about fishnet and I learned how to crochet fishnet pieces. It would be fun to incorporate fishnet pockets internally and externally to comply with the see-through backpack rules many schools have. They can see through it and it looks super cool.

I love, love, love the denim piecing on this. Upcycling the adidas with the zippers is on point, as well as the jean pockets!! On the next one, try fusible fleece(thermolam plus). You can get it at most Walmarts. It's a pre-cut pkg(45"x60"), fairly inexpensive($5-$6 if that) and you can save what you don't use for another project. If you use it, just cut it smaller(without the SA) so it doesn't interferr with your domestic machine and not make it bulky. Plus it helps give it more structure. Making your own bias tape was good too. That pattern was truly unique, just like you! I loved seeing your thought processes as you worked through it also. I can't thank you enough for all of your upcycling talents and encouragements. (I got my info on the fusible fleece from watching bag making videos on youtube). I've used it on a small purse and their advice is sound. Keep doing what you do!! 🥰🥰
