And not sure if you know this but it's not very good to put magnets that are TOO strong near the hard drive because the hard drive will break.

I have been watching a lot of window case mod videos and thought about this method to attach the side panel. Glad to see I wasn't the only one to think of it. I had even thought of the same adhesive backed magnatic tape. Glad to see it works so well. Since I will not be using regular hard drives I don't have to worry about magnatic interference.

Tip; it is better to put the painted/coated side on the inside of the window. It will still be visible and cover your magnets but will not suffer the as high of a chance of getting scratched by any outside objects.
@Panzergruppe226 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks, I don't have power tools so this method helped me a lot. I did it exactly like what you did, with some differences: - don't have acrylic score, but fortunately the acrylic shop was willing to cut the sheet into 45 x 42.5cm, and also cheaper than buy 50 x 50cm. - no one sells adhesive magnetic strip here. So I bought a magnetic strip thing that usually inserted in refrigerator door gasket (only one shop sells that lol), and I attached it using 2-sided tape. - just two strips on the top & bottom. Although the magnet is not particularly strong, given the length (42cm each, I think) it is able to hold the acrylic in place.

JoJo if you ever run into a problem where you have a small area to work with but need extra strong magnets then use Rare Earth magnets they are more money but most times are 2x stronger size for size........if you really need holding power you can make an electric magnet, I use them sometimes if i am building a big 3-D side panel...just some info nothing more......again Nice work JoJo keep moving Forward, your stuff is on point once again!! NOW Before the Magnet Nuts get crazy, You shield it to prevent damage just like HDD, SSD Drives and some of the New M.2 & New NVME drives do and most electronics are shielded to prevent AC/DC Bleed. If you are not sure or can not find the info on your installed item better to caution on the side of safety and just shield it to be extra safe & shield your magnets with deflecting material to keep from causing issues.

I like the concept, but it looks like either way the magnet doesn't make the panel flush. I'd probably bore out a cavity before adhering the magnets, also use a stronger neodymium/Earth magnet.

great vid, my pc looks awesome and a lot less dusty than with open panel cause of the lights :) however: BEWARE of the staticity of the plastic panel. aparently cleaning it with microfiber cloth and deluted fabric conditioner will help with that. hold it against ur hair to check if its still static. (my hair was all rised up once i removed the safety plastic of the plastic plate and it gave me shocks., once i did the fabric conditioner trick it was fine again :) ) . (staticity of plastic doesnt go away on its own aparently, you also have anti static spray for this.)
