Bill makes it look easy to remove that sound dampening material from the back of the bezel. I didn't have as much luck getting it to come up in one solid piece. After removing the bulk of the material, I soaked the residual adhesive with a bunch of Goo Gone. After letting it penetrate, it came off easily with a flat razor blade.

I had a black and red H440 a few years back, I gave it to my friend when he got his first AIO. Also, I don't mean to sound snobby, but I was aware of the mounting areas, I was curious as if they'll still be good spots to out the EK XE 120mm because of the rad's thickness. Contemplating applying a "u-channel" edge molding to the opening in the front bezel, but the type you sell on your site would not handle the roughly 4.2mm thickness of the combined metal / plastic on the H440 front bezel. Fantastic job, it looks like it came from the factory like this! Given I lack all the tools for this it'd be cheaper for me to just buy a whole new case which is annoying. My temps aren't terrible but they're higher than I'm used to, but then thats partly down to newer Intel chips running stupid hot. It's like we've gone back to the P4 days. Interestingly enough the reason they ran hot was because they were also rushed to market, thanks to AMD being competitive! It's amazing how history repeats itself! It would be nice if they offered different front and top panels like they do side panels. A missed opportunity there methinks.
@MaxellAdGuy6 жыл бұрын
Very good points, thanks for commenting! Thank you, Bill at www.mnpctech.com
@control_the_pet_population6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't necessarily call it a missed opportunity. The case was designed around noise reduction, not temperature reduction. Essentially any case that advertises interior foam sound insulation is telling you that they wrapped your PC components in a nice toasty blanket. Removing the foam and cutting holes in it will improve temps, but it defeats the original design intent. At that point, you should have just bought a different case from the get-go. All that said, I think NZXT made a common sense and very simple workaround... When you wish for airflow over noise insulation, you just pop-off the front panel. That's what I do with my H440 and it's the best of both worlds. Thermals aren't outstanding compared to more mesh covered cases that don't have foam insulation... but my GPU temps drop by 5-7c under gaming load and motherboard components stay within very respectable ranges. The front to back airflow is solid with the panel removed. When I'm done gaming and want the silence, pop the panel back into place. I don't see a reason to permanently sacrifice a good chunk of the sound deadening properties when the only time temps become a concern is under heavy load.

i just cut a square hole in my sharkoon bw 9000.. always had a watercooler at the top so the heat dissipated instantly.., but now my build is almost 5 years old so i went for an air cooler and i instantly noticed that heat was building up in my system.. @Weech.7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! I recently installed an x62. It wouldn't fit up top due to clearance issues with my mobo VRM. Ended up having to front mount it. Opening the front panel makes my temps drop about 10c! with the the front panel on my GPU gets uncomfortably hot. I have 2 Noctua iPPC 2ks on the rad and it doesn't help much.

I would take same approach, but expect the cutting process to be much more time involving as all Phanteks EVOLV top and front covers are 1/8" (3mm) thick aluminum. The H440 only required ONE cut-off wheel for the Dremel, but the EVOLV may need two.

agreed. Your questions shared by many people. Thanks for sharing!
@NickBaysingar7 жыл бұрын
They'd be better off just doing a whole new case based off this design. That's kind of what they have been doing though. In fact, OTHER case manufacturers took notes from this particular case. The built in PSU shroud, the angled edge of the motherboard tray, the fan hub behind the tray. This case kind of popularized those features. But yeah, it would be super cool if they made an alternative front panel with a grill on it that we could just buy separately and swap out with the original. But this mod seems simple enough. You just need the right tools for it.

I just picked up a second case today, so that I can finally take a crack at modding the front panel like this, but i'm terrified because i'm not usually good at stuff like this. Shame it looks like you never ended up selling pre modded front panels ;(

NZXT wouldnt give me a good wholesale price, so I never stocked them in my store. Practice on a dirt cheap case first :-)

Started doing this for my H440 as well, thinking of doing the same thing up to. Just a pity that the modders mesh is changed to 12x12 inches now :/

I’m not big on the whole power tools thing but by god I’m going to figure it out and do something like this to my phanteks case. Thank you for the guide; it will be very helpful. Where did you get the sweet ass form fitted dust filter for your fans? Did that come with the case/fans?

How do you know when to do wet sanding?
@MaxellAdGuy7 жыл бұрын
Wet Sanding isn't necessary when using Gloss Paint over mesh.
@aurimasknieza73207 жыл бұрын
Bill Owen, but wet sanding method is used sometimes for pc modding right? I helped dad wetsanding and preparing a car for painting few times and thought that wet sanding is best preparation way

could you write me the measure in meters where cut the front panel?

You can covert measurements here, www.worldwidemetric.com/measurements.html

Does this significantly increase noise levels? Quite like the quiet aspect of the case but don't want to sacrifice airflow haha. Also, any cheaper alternatives to epoxy?

Hey there Bill, Awesome mod. I have two s340 elite cases I'd like to do this mod on. However, I have one hesitation. I'm not confident I can make the cuts on the front of the case and keep it clean. Is there anything you can suggest doing to the boarders of the sheet metal for a clean look after cutting? Or would you recommend just trying to re-paint the entire face of it again after making the cuts. Thanks for your time and this video.
@MaxellAdGuy7 жыл бұрын
You can use a hand file to clean up and straighten the cut edges. Use masking tape as guide for your the filing.

The epx applicator how much is it and do you have a good link for purchase?
Did you do any before/after temp measurements? I'm planning to buy a used H440 for only about $33. Does it worth it? Currently I have a Cooler Master CM690 II, I'm afraid of airflow but with this mod it will be great I guess.
@MaxellAdGuy4 жыл бұрын
10 - 12 degree difference after modification depending upon application being used. The Cooler Master CM690 II already has exceptionally good ventilation, so if you're experimenting cooling issues, you need to swap out the factory fans to fans with higher static pressure, like Corsair SP-series, Scythe Gentle Typhoons or Fractal Design Venturi HP series. Setup fans for positive pressure configuration. Install all fans, but rear exhaust as intakes, so you're pushing out the warm air. Bill at Mnpctech

@@MaxellAdGuy Thank you for your reply. I decided to go for a Cooler Master MasterBox NR400 instead. Same price (about $33) but instead of 5 years old it is 3 months old only. Also smaller, glass and good ventilation.
