Oooh those would be really good for beginner horses! Less of a chance of getting hurt if they clip their leg over a jump or something!! Mine got a pretty nasty injury once
@DuckBoxHouse2 жыл бұрын
A small gust of wind and you'd have pool noodles floating across the yard and possibly spooking every horse being ridden at the same time. You'd need to find a way to secure them, but you can't really do that or a horse that clipped their leg would trip over completely.

There are very soft "poles" that are made of something similar to Styrofoam/Polypropylene called "Dualaktivierungsgassen" in german. I'm not sure what the English equivalent is, but they are normally used for groundwork but they are very soft and flexible so its not a problem if your horse steps on them, they dont roll because they are rectangular but they are heavy enough to not be blown away by the wind. The concept of "Dualaktivierung" comes from Michael Geitner, but I'm sure you can find way cheaper ones online or even make them yourself. As the person above me already mention, pool noodles will fly around, they also break pretty easily if your horse steps on them repeatedly. Maybe you can find something similar to these "Dualaktivierungsgassen" where you come from, they are also great for doing all kinds of things like "aided" walking along diagonals because it isn't as bad if they accidentally step on them or even lunging. PS: the poles by Michael Geitner are only "special" because they are blue and jellow, two colours horses can supposedly differentiate the best, and have his name on them. It makes no difference though so don't waste your money on those, there are way cheaper ones 😅

@Duckybox Music you could add some sand. It'd keep the pole soft and moveable but not so much it'd fly away

Another great way to build hind muscle for a more advanced (with building said muscle) horse is walking them backwards up a hill, if they can handle it. And obviously a small hill. My dad has been doing this on one of ours and it's made him so much stronger! He's giving us some really nice slides now, would recommend!

That will definitely help the pony. You can see a difference in him stepping out more on just the second try.

You can hang them overhead on a rope like a car wash and have them walk through, you can also have them horizontal on jump standards like 2 on each side for them to walk through. Great for desensitization

you need to adjust them more accurately for your horse's stride. the little guy was struggling to make that spacing which could actually injure his poor hind end. I'd make it a little easier for him until he's built up more mobility to attempt a longer gait

Yah those aren't safe to use as poles. Like I know it SEEMS like they should be but they'll move way too easily. which can lead to bigger problems. You can literally see where it would go wrong with the first one. Just buy landscape timbers
@eventingthedude2 жыл бұрын
Actually it’s not a bad idea. Even if they move easily it can be good for desensitizing horses especially since it won’t hurt them since it’s foam
