I would add some physical separation between the temperature sensor and the rest to make sure that the heat generated by the esp32 won't be biasing the readings. Also, the bme680 is just estimating the co2 reading, not actually measuring it.

I’m a total Home Assistant junkie. And more recently going harder on my ham radio stuff, I’m getting more comfortable and confident with soldering. This kind of project is exactly what I want to take on. Presence sensors are so much more useful to me than motion sensors, and have become the foundation of some of my most useful automations. I’ve got the 3D printer but need to pick up enough 3D design skills to be dangerous. I think if you kept going with this, compressed your design down to a single pc board, there’s enough room in the market for someone else to sell ESPhome sensors! It’d be a nice additional way to monetize your content in a totally non toxic kind of way. Also PS this is my first time on your channel and def subscribing. Cheers!

Thank you so much! There are a couple of things that I think would make a good product that I’ve made, and I’m exploring those options, but I am still in the process of learning the knowledge I need to make those things.

As a parent of young children (and a maker), I like this "ability to sense breathing". It means I can get an alert if my child stops breathing for instance, or has difficulty.
@meeskees7025 ай бұрын
Well no, not like that. It is able to sense breathing, but not exclusively breathing. Any movement will do so it’s not of much use for this purpose.

Great video! And very reminiscent of the original EP1 video I did that led me to making it in the first place! Btw, we finally have great stock of the Lite haha, been difficult to keep it in stock! Also a quick note regarding the PIR in the EP1, it's not actually used for just the same function, but it can greatly assist in certain environments and add a lot of flexibility for detection, which is the real reason for including it on the EP1. Keep up the good work!

The PIR on the EP1 is great for avoiding false positives on the mmwave in larger rooms. PIR to turn the lights on, mmwave to turn them off, perfection. Oh and the DFRobot sensor in the EP1 doesn't support zones, but I guess you found that out by now 😁

I’ve mentioned it in a previous comment, but it’s actually not a good design. Putting the sensor that high up makes it very difficult for it to detect shorter people I recommend around waste height. I actually have a video coming out on Monday explaining it

9:15 Why can't this be used like those that uses coin batteries? e.g. aqara sensor That wire will definitely not pass spouse approval.
@Mellow_labs5 ай бұрын
The reason this DIY setup can't use a coin battery like some other sensors is due to higher power consumption. Beetle ESP32-C3: ~160 mA at 3.3V mmWave Sensor: ~3.5 mA at 3.3V BME680 Sensor: ~3.1 mA at 3.3V Total Power Consumption: ~165 mA A CR2032 coin battery (220 mAh) would only last about 1.2 hours with this setup. The Aqara Presence Sensor, also uses a wire due to similar power needs. Despite initial concerns my partner, quickly appreciate the functionality and benefits of this sensor.

A simple IR sensor cant do the same? or what's the rocket science behind this ?
@Mellow_labs5 ай бұрын
In most cases where I’ve tried IR sensors, they suck. A little bit of sunlight through the window is going to trigger them constantly. Also they don’t have the range of a mmwave sensor, this one can detect you from 24 m away.

I would but I don’t actually recommend it, it’s made to be up high. Which I now know is not where you want to put a mmwave, it’s not very good at detecting shorter people. So you’re better off putting it about knee high.
