DIY Renault Scenic III - Check & Change Rear Side | Tail | Stop Light or Indicator Light Lamp | Bulb

Watch #HowToBloke visually examine, electrically test, and then change the rear stop/tail lamp or rear side/brake light bulb on his venerable 2009 Renault Grand Scenic Mk3 III. This 2009 Renault Scenic 3 / III uses a single stop/tail light lamp with two filaments. This same technique can be used to change the Renault Scenic 3 rear indicator light, lamp or bulb, too.
You'll see How To Bloke remove the Renault Scenic 3 / III rear light cluster, after which he'll have access to the rear lamp or bulb holders to be able to check and change the Renault Scenic 3/III rear stop/brake & tail/side-light and the Renault Scenic 3 / III rear indicator light bulb.

Went to Halfords in Plymouth....Paid them to change the brake light bulb.......They hadn't a clue and cracked the lens... and then gave up.......Great video...Going to do it myself later today

Never. Check the rubber (neoprene?) seal around the rear light cluster and the tailgate/boot seal, especially at the top near the LED brake lamp.

Use ordinary bulbs; filament type bulbs in a Renault Scenic 3 because I don't think LED bulbs will work everywhere on that particular vehicle. Watch my video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKbCd5mafbpnf9k You will see I'm trying to fit a LED bulb which doesn't work for the high intensity rear fog lamp but a LED works ok for the reversing light. Bulbs like those used to cost - coppers. Now? Nearly a £tenner for two. I always changed them in pairs as they age similarly, one goes chances are its mate doesn’t have long to go. Means you do the job once instead of twice. Plus any others with darkened glass as shown here. Light units used to be EASILY accessed but now it’s not obvious forcing many back to the dealer… and we all know what those sharks charge per hour. and - headlight units are now peculiar to each model, no generics. Meaning they can charge any crazy price they like. And that’s what they do, for simple plastic mouldings that might cost at a guess £2-5 tops a shot to make, probably much less.

These days, it's not the price of the car so much, the real cost is in keeping the vehicle road-worthy, serviced, compliant, and insured. In my early days of ownership (since 1976) cars could be fixed by the owner if they were handy with a spanner. And, new parts were cheap or readily available from a scrappy. Change a clutch on a Ford - no problem. Service the transmission - no problem. These days, engine compartments are so cramped, one can hardly get one's hand in there let alone identify the component that needs attention and spanner it! I could rattle on but let's leave it there. I do hope a manufacturer will one day promote a new vehicle boasting that it can be home-maintained by an enthusiast. I would definitely buy that car!
