Glad you got it fixed. Anytime I had a ICM problem, the car just wouldn't start. But, you never can tell what kind of gremlins will pop on an older vehicle. If the AIR injection check valve is working you should never hear the exhaust going thru it. I just removed my AIR system and EGR. I also had it tuned. Really cleaned up the engine bay with that useless crap out of the way. I would guess the shorter belt is to bypass the AIR pump?
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
This was definitely a strange one. My best guess was the ICM causing a strange timing condition at low RPM. It was this or the ECU/Chip so I took a shot at the easier of the two to try lol! It's been mint ever since swapping the distributor. Yes, the shorter belt is for a smog bypass when the time comes. Not sure the best way to do the exhaust hard lines. Would be ideal to just put headers and an exhaust on it and be done!
@SilverDragon8174 жыл бұрын
@@Greenlightfilming The quickest and easiest would be to just plug the ports. But yes, headers would be ideal. Keep it up, I enjoy your videos. A lot good info and tips.
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
I had that same thought, however I am worries that the stainless air ports wont come out without making a hell of a mess. Plugging the holes would be ideal!! Maybe I let them soak with PB blaster for a week and give them a go.

Good videos on this car so far. I've loved all my 3rd gens and like seeing what other people are doing with them. I do hope that was not straight Dex-Cool you put in that though and is the universal type coolant. It does not mix well with the old green coolant. The smog pump bypass will clean up the look on the passenger side for sure. Last one I did years ago I used 1/4" brake line plugs to screw in the tube holes and worked perfectly...at least I think it was 1/4" it was like 20 years a go so. Will definitely be following.
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
The car actually has dexcool in it right now for some reason. I know it should have the normal green coolant instead. Not sure when or why it was switched out! Lol. I'm assuming that I'll end up having to drain/fill sooner or later. I'll switch it back over to the green stuff then. Thanks for the tip on the smog port plugs! I do have some reservations about trying to unscrew each port. I'm guessing they are pretty seized.

Hey man, how did you do the Smogpump-delete? I want to do it on my 87 lb9 Camaro, but I'm too scared about breaking something. Trying to find out about it on thirdgen.org has led me nowhere. The tubing to the manifold and the pump, shpuld I just...Remove it? Won't the car just fuck me over and not run right?
@frankbattaglia43774 жыл бұрын
Hey, I think you might have a 350 in that Formula. That year, the Formula Firebird hood bulge lists the size of the engine and I think I saw in the video 5.7 Litre. The only way to tell for sure is to look in the lockable compartment in the hatch area. It has an RPO code sticker on the little door. If it has a code B2L or L98 you have the 350.
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
You know, I was really hoping that it had going to be a 350 car after I looked at it in person. It has the LB9 rpo code in the glove box. No L98/B2L etc. Someone must have put the hood decals on it at some point is all I can figure. The door decals also just say "FORMULA", not "FORMULA 350".

My V6 usually hesitates more in warm weather and now it started to shake under acceleration and stall when stopping. Ordered a new ICM, cap and rotor. I wonder if they fix it
@gullcreekstudio13915 ай бұрын
Question! So did you check the fuel pressure at idle before coming to the distributer conclusion? My gta 305 tpi started running rich and now wants to die at low idle or first going into gear. My hunch is the fuel pressure regulator because of running rich.

I have an 89 Camaro TPI 350, and the car runs perfectly fine, then goes into limp mode after 30 or so minutes. The car loses all power, does not accelerate, and seems like it shutters/hesitates/wants to stall when you try to accelerate. What would be causing this issue?
@dylansmith6043Ай бұрын
Any chance you've got the part number on that distributor?
@keenanwengert4234 жыл бұрын
Love the video very high quality and insightful. I got a 91 formula with an lb9 and a 5 spd. It's got a similar issue with high idle when warm but it dies out of gear after high rpms or wot. So it will bog and sputter and die just like yours, but when I put in the clutch after hard acceleration. And ideas on what it could be?
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, it would be a shot in the dark to guess what is going on with your car. You'll have to do some troubleshooting of basic things. Being a '91, I believe you don't have a MAF (Runs on Speed Density). Sounds like it could be a TPS issue if it idles high, and has a hard time running after a WOT run. I'd start with checking your TPS voltage, and make sure it ramps up and down smoothly. Check your ignition timing after that. Could be a timing advance issue like my car had.
@keenanwengert4234 жыл бұрын
@@Greenlightfilming wow thanks for replying, I actually did everything you did in your video except for a whole distribiter, and the coolant temp sensor. I did replace the icm though, I will check the timing. Thanks for helping I'll be coming back to this video often

@@keenanwengert423 no worries man, good luck with it! Even if you find things that arent wrong with it, its not a bad thing. It tells you what's NOT the issue. These cars can be temperamental for sure lol.

@ajhubert18253 жыл бұрын
Hey man I know this video is kinda old but when you did your distributor/icm did you have to do a reset procedure for the icm for the ecm to read it correctly or does it do it automatically. I have a 92 firebird and I'm having high idle problems like you were and when warm it would act like it's about to stall then go right back up after I pop the gas a little
@Greenlightfilming3 жыл бұрын
Should fire right up. I dont think I I needed to do anything like that (going off of memory here). Resetting the ECM would have been to clear codes, and relearn the IAC Motor.

With that shorter serp belt in hand, I couldn't understand why you were at all concerned about that broken air tube... Aren't its day numbered anyway?
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
Yes, its days are numbered. The problem being it would force the smog delete before I was prepared to do it. The likelihood that the air tubes are seized in the manifolds is pretty high lol.... could open a hell of a can of worms.
