Best instructional video I’ve seen so far on this. A lot of smart advice on safety as well. Never go into a confined space without knowing the air quality. Many gases can displace oxygen. You can literally lose consciousness within 2 seconds. Thank you.

Very good video just a couple notes please don't use zip ties I typically see them only last about 5 years before they rot away and cause issues I mock my pumps up with electrical tape than use stainless hose clamps to secure the floats I've always Ben told its bad to spin the pump backwards that's why u put a check valve in we just drill a ¼" "wheep" hole above the check valve to allow the line to.drain back. Also a rope on the pump does help to install and remove but many many times I've seem the rope rot and pump sucks it up killing the pump or the handle rots off and you drop the pump trying to remove it. With basic ¼-½ H.P. pump i lower them down in with the piping. Also never ever install a electric outlet inside the tank so you can just plug the pump in I've scene it burn out pumps on more than one occasion we always instal a water tight elec. Box in the riser of the tank and hard wire the pump using direct barrieal wire nuts. And one more note from my experience pumps that seem to pump more liquid last longer meaning a longer run time each cycle than say a pump with a short throw to the float it seems like alot of starts and stops burns out a pump faster than it running longer

Thanks for this info. I'm a do-it-yourselfer and am installing a new pump tomorrow. And the new pump (goulds) has a standard electrical plug, and so does the float switch. I was debating cutting the plugs off and hard wiring them inside the waterproof box like you say vs wire in an outlet. The old waterproof box was how it was done 25 years ago and it lasted that long. Actually my pump is a Myers and it still works but the plastic housing on the bottom is cracked and it sprays water causing the pump to run a long time and eventually trip the breaker from overheating. Apparently they don't make Myers pumps anymore. Hopefully the Goulds holds up.

great video. My pump failed the other day due to some sludge getting trapped in the pump and the previous owners didnt install an alarm float. luckily I found out I had a problem when my tub wouldn’t drain. I too have to install a slip joint to remove the pump in the future. My pump is 20 yrs old so thats really good. I just bought a new hydromatic pump also made by Pentair and an alarm float. Will be installing soon.

I am in the same boat but sinking. My husband Mark Surface is in a wheelchair and very disabled and we are 64 with 0 family! Had no idea we had a sewage tank pump to the sewer system. I had rocks instead of grass. The workers dug up the opening with 3ft of soil deep On the rocks. I bought a pump for 700!!! And will have to figure it out myself. A neighbor said he would help but that may not be true. Our home is 19 yrs old and we had no idea about the tank! Husband on Dialysis and we are on Social security and barely making it before. No possibility of calling a plumber. The toilet flap was not seating correctly and our water bill is also over 800.! Guess what 6 months ago a water main leak. Thank you for your video . I pray God will help me. 😢

I'm from Southern Ontario, Canada. Most places I've visited just use gravity fed to a leech field. So a dual chamber tank and a leech field. There was one with a mound. But it had multiple tanks about two or three with a box coming out of the ground with a red light and an alarm

I recommend testing the pump in a large 5 gallon bucket before installing (even better to have a hose refilling the bucket as the pump runs). Last thing you want is to install a new pump only to find out it is not working.

How did you get the pipe to align with the exsisting out flow pipe when you added that reducer? Didn't it raise the stand pipe? I used a PVC repair coupling the kind that slides like a telescope to get the perfect hight. I also replaced mine. After 19yrs I discovered the small zip ties had cut thru the electrical cord from the vibration of the motor turning on and off. Shorted everything out. I replaced the zip ties wirh 20mil 2in tape. Good thing I didn't have a methane explosion, And please wear protective gloves next time.

How did you determine it was safe to 'drop it in' without entering the tank and attaching the pump to a base? If it is cast iron, will it settle itself? I need a grinder ejector pump replacement but the plumbers near me state they don't do this repair. Smh.

Most pumps have little feet and sit fine on the bottom of a concrete tank. I’ve only seen bases in plastic tanks and they just sit no attaching to the base? Would you actually expect someone to enter a septic tank or pump chamber?

I use a small submersible to drain my tank when necessary. If the alarm isn't functioning water can back up into the blower pit and ruin your blower motor.

I am now replacing mine the 2nd time. Both times I have found mostly small pieces of plastic, like wrappers, twist ties, that must have made it through the drains. This caused the pump to fail. I would not use electrical tape for that reason. Just use the zip tyes and hose clamps.
@bradm2116
@bradm2116 2 жыл бұрын
Please don't use zip ties I typically see them only last about 5 years b4 they rot away and either the floats falls to the bottom.of the tank and either won't start the pump or worst case won't shut the pump off until it burns out amd the pump can suck up the zip tie and bind it up

here in Ontario Canada we install check valves. My drain froze up a couple years ago and now I wonder if it was caused by the check valve. Two separate plumbers told me to remove the check valve so the water doesnt freeze between the pump chamber and the drain field. I just wonder if this can cause any damage to the pump.

@@RMSpeltzFarm They say 50-70 years, so you're probably fine, and you've added the rope. Eventually the entire field will need to be replaced. I have the habit of installing new whenever it's cheap to do so.

The floats and pump power wire should be in separate conduit as they are different voltage also there should be a union on the discharge so you can easily replace the pump. No check valve and probably not drilled for airlock.

yeah, I noticed that. I recently replaced a dead pump in my septic, and just decided to replace it the same way as what was in there previously, switch a little above the pump, since I didn't know how it was planned out. I really regret not moving the float, and the alarm floats up another foot or two up. If I can not regret that decision for at least 10 years, I won't complain TOO much

Stainless steel clamps, not zip ties. We use Gould’s, I know they are only sold through wholesalers who generally only sell to professional contractors but in my opinion there’s a huge drop off between Gould’s and Myers.
