DIY Septic Pump Replacement! We show you how we replaced a failed septic(or sump) pump and check valve. It took a bit of troubleshooting but what I believe happened is the check valve failed and caused the pump to over run and wear out. We decided to replumb the whole thing and install a new, better Zoeller pump.

Oh man just found your channel today while doing Mule research then I seen this video ! We own a septic company up here in Massachusetts so good to see a home owner not scared to get dirty and jump right into a septic repair . Up here in Mass we have to drill the weep hole so the pipe drains out and doesn’t freeze . Matt F

Thank you. It's definitely not a fun job but it's not as hard as some folks think. I never considered a weep hole for freeze prevention but that makes perfect sense. Thank you for watching and for the comments! Hope you have a great new year!

The legs on the original pump are to keep it out of any sludge or sediment that is in the bottom of the tank. That way it doesn’t burn out quicker or push debris into your drain field.

You video is on point with what I may need to do myself. Have similar septic, solid waste tank and a gray water tank. Grey water tank pumps water to a leech field basin & pump is not working when I turn from auto (have compurterized smart panel that pumps automatically) to manual which should override & turn pump on. Positive pump is not turning on. This is a newer home * have homeowners warranty, waited 11 days for the scheduled appointment date/time, & no tech showed. Septic guy's phone # just rings...no answer. Looks like I'm going to have to do the job myself. Appreciate your video...

You're welcome! Sorry it is different instructions from on the pump you use. Ours was direct wired so we just connected the three wires where the old pump was after cleaning up the connections a bit. The instructions that come with your pump should have some good info.

@@SixthDayRanch thanks for the reply, yes come with instructions but I'm concerned I don't connect properly, also it's quite powerful one because I need to be pumped quite far away, I'm avoiding contracting a electrician because it's expensive but maybe I don't have another choice 😞

I took an extra 120 volt submersible pump I had and plumbed me a stand pipe with about a 2 and a half foot tee at the top with one side of the tee capped. In an emergency I can drop it in and let it hang and connect some more 1 1/4: pipe I have to the open side of the tee and drain my tank down out into the pasture. I can just slip them together and since there is no pressure they stay together just fine. I cut the male end off an old heavier extension cord and zip tied it up the stand pipe and out. From there I can just plug it into a heavy extension cord from the outside receptacle on the house. I figured that out when I had a pump go out and the tank was running over.

That's a great idea! I'm seriously considering doing something similar to this. Those little pumps don't cost much and might be good insurance.

What was the purpose of the hose bib, or spigot on the line, and why did you opt to eliminate it when you replumbed?

Probably for a pressure check system. easy way to tell if your system has a leak (cracked pipe or ruts growing into it) or is plugged. Usually have a shutoff valve below it. Maybe where the lowest check valve was originally

I rather the old school septic. Dumps into tank and liquid flows out opposite side high into a field line pipe while solids fall to bottom. No pump needed.
@SixthDayRanch
@SixthDayRanch 3 жыл бұрын
Ours is basically like that but the drain bed is elevated so has to use a pump to push it into the drain field.

@@SixthDayRanch if you ever have to redo that just go with a long field line which is basically a semi deep ditch with gravel..

I didn't describe it well, but that's what we have. It's just a pressurized conventional system due to soil conditions I believe.

How much does it cost to have a septic tank besides rid ex a year
@SixthDayRanch
@SixthDayRanch 3 жыл бұрын
Yearly septic cost is very low if maintained properly. Electricity for the pump is the only ongoing cost. Every 3-5 years the tank will need to be pumped out which costs ~ $150-200 around here.
@philipdorwart9922
@philipdorwart9922 Жыл бұрын
Don't ever use rid-ex. It ruins the natural ecology of your septic system. it's actually banned in some states. My neighbor had a terrible problem when he used it. in 10 years we have never used it and only have just had our system pumped every 4 years...
