A special extra video for our amazing patrons, hope this answers some of your questions about how we run a mini-dive shop on Delos! Please give a big thanks to Kazza for editing this, and putting the time stamps for the answers to the questions below.
Quoting Mr Brady - “Scuba diving is relaxation, adventure, peace, history, learning, and exercise - its all of those into one!”
Scuba diving is one of our main “hobby's” on Delos. Its something we love! and to be able to dive from Delos is amazing!
We’ve gotten a lot of questions about how we Scuba dive on Delos, compressor, certifications, gear, safety etc. I hope this DIY video can help to answer all our questions of how we dive on our own sailboat. Lots of Love! Kazza and the boys :D - “Yes it’s a magical place under water!”

Great video. Brady's comment about diving being like being in space rings so true for me. Getting comfortable is everything. We had a slightly newer version of the 220v Posidon compressor on our boat. It would fill our steel genesis tanks to 5K lbs. Awesome unit. Takes a licking and keeps on filling it can fill a bit wet, but that just means you have to maintain your tanks properly. One thing we did was to keep a 28 gallon plastic trash can in our lazarette. We would fill this with sea water and fill with the tanks in that to get a better fill like many shops and big boats do.

I used to dive that same BCD with the integrated backup regulator. But then I switched to a steel backplate/wing. At the same time, I moved from an aluminum to steel tank for the same buoyancy reasons you mentioned. In a 5 mil wetsuit, I can dive without any weights. The backplate and tank are enough on their own. Both regs are the same so minimize rebuild parts in my spares kit. Simple setup that has minimal component type parts that can be reconfigured if need be. If the wing goes bad, just replace it. If a strap breaks, replace it (keep some generic 2" strap in the spares kit). I always love the videos on the tech stuff. Brian needs the shirt I have that says "Trust me, I'm an Engineer". :)

What a great video to watch today. 25 years ago today I got certified to scuba dive. I've had a great time and I've seem lots of cool stuff, and I'm just getting started! I'm with Brady 100%, when I'm under water is when I'm most relaxed, most at peace. I'm now a Divemaster and work with students all them time and it's very rewarding. And I'm about 8 months away from following my dream and combined my two favorite things to do in the world, sailing and scuba diving. I can't wait!

Great video guys. For me, who've made about 200 dives, it's mostly about being weightless. The BC allows one to hover at any depth and just relax while watching the sea life around you. Before I dove I would have dreams of flying. Sort of like flapping my arms and being able to go up into the clouds then swoop down toward the earth. After I started diving those dreams stopped. I was living the dream. It's so good to hear that you all still really enjoy diving after making so many dives.

Yet another great episode. Becoming a dive master took a lot of study and hard work....and bravery.....my hat is off to Brady. I use to dive the East China Sea around Okinawa in the early 60's....understand why he loves it. One can point to Brady's dive leadership for no dive accidents on Delos....

Thanks Kazza for another beautifully edited video and sharing your pov. I was geeking out on Brian's explanation of the compressor in the engine room and the 220 volt generator, load management, cooling, maintenance...excellent! And who would love to dive with Master Diver Bradylicious. Love you guys and appreciate more than words can express how freaking much this means to me.

Nice! Summed up exactly how I feel about diving! I've been PADI Advanced Open Water since the Eighties, watched "Sea Hunt" when I was a kid, always had the bug to dive. Sailing and diving, the best combo ever! Actually, it's been your channel that inspired me to want to do the same thing, currently working toward that end. I bet you guys would be a blast to dive with!

Earlier this year I traveled from Connecticut, USA to Australia and me and my sister went out diving for four days on a live aboard on the Great Barrier Reef. When I got home I started watching scuba videos and that is actually how I discovered the Delos channel. You have the best dive footage I've seen! I of course immediately went back to episode one and watched the entire adventure in about two months - beautiful videos and story! Peace and love, Brian

Since watching that classic TV series Sea Hunt I wanted to dive. Life, commitments and priorities change and regretfully I never created the opportunity to make it happen. Given I was in grade school when Sea Hunt was released, you can do the math and see it's a little late for me to take it up now, which is my long winded way of thanking you guys for bringing to life a corner of the world I'll never experience first hand. Awesome video!

Guys I have been diving since I was 7 yrs old. My father got me a small tank. We used a double hose regulator ala Sea Hunt. By the time I was 9 yrs old I worked on my first episode of Sea Hunt. After high school I was heired to work on a movie shooting in the Bahamas. It was amazing! The water was clear and warm, full of fishe and I felt like one of them.. But I had work to do. We had an old LST Landing Craft, the best diving boat ever. We dove at Stanial Cay grotto for a week but only at slack tide. One of my jobs at (19 yrs old) was to teach actors how to scuba underwater It was easy. That's my story... and I'm stickin' to it.

Thanks for this video, I just got dive certified and still need to buy tanks and was wondering about steel vs. aluminum on a boat. My little brother is a diver and he swears by steel tanks for the same reasons you mentioned but I wasn't sure how well they would hold up long term on a boat cruising so this video gives me confidence that steel is they way to go. I also had a lot of trouble with being under weight so the steel would help that issue too.

Things are easier now, in the late 50s when I was diving a little they had to use 4 stage compressors to reach 2000psi, 4 different cylinders each smaller and much higher compression than the one before it, you either filled up in Melbourne's only dive shop (Victoria Australia not Florida) or joined a club which supplied you from large bottles, it took 1 and a 1/2 hours to reach our favorite spots for the joy of 1 1/2 hours diving (twin 40 cu ft tanks). The only other people that had a compressor was the Navy.

Thanks for the video. I've always been happy on the water, so while I've enjoyed your videos, I wouldn't say they inspired me to get a sailboat. (Not a criticism, just a setup for the rest of the comment.) I've always been nervous about diving. I don't mind doing it in a pool, but the thought of doing it out in the ocean has always put me off it. I don't like tight places, and the thought of getting caught underwater in a tight place is quite a bit off-putting. For my birthday this year, my wife got me a snorkel, mask, and fins. I hope by this time next year I'll have all the gear and take a scuba course. I've been slowly getting the courage to do it for some time, and she thought she would help. Plus, I hate paying money every month to have my boat cleaned. Thanks for helping to inspire me in that direction. The thought of missing all of what you have shown us under the waves has slowly, over the years, changed my mind.

I noticed that you opened the tank and fill hose valves all the way. I recommend only a half or one full turn, you will not see a reduction in the fill rate and if there is a failure you can more quickly get it under control. A ruptured fill hose can get quite loud and fly around very violently.

Compressors on startup can draw twice as many amps it does when running. My shop one pulled 60 amps starting. My shop compressor does the same as yours, I always opened a release valve b4 starting then close it 10 - 15 sec for motor warm up. - otherwise as you do I had to turn off every other tool/appliance till startup. My previous compressor (same model) I had made up a small "pre-tank" where air first accumulated before going into the main tank (Your dive tanks?) this solved the startup draw on amps, eliminated that problem. I can not remember how I did this, the "pre-tank" (not sure what to call it) was made from 2" S.S tube 6" long with end disc's welded on. Air in and out there was two 5/16 threaded piped welded on the sides, top and bottom, one went to the tank the other from the compressor, so it was placed in the feed line from compressor to tank, this is a 1/4' or 5/16" alloy pipe with flared ends the nut clamped to existing compressor head and tank inlet - make sense? Awesome vid for me as non diver thank you! Great editing!
