I think you need a little more water in the soil to get compaction. Looks great, good job!

I like the idea of using grey water instead of having all water going into the septic system. Using grey water reduces water usage which is so important in Arizona. I save water in my shower while it’s running before it comes out hot. About 2 to 3 quarts which I use to water plants.

Yes, It seems like such a shame to just have so much water go down the drain. I have always wanted to water trees with my shower water, it's awesome to finally be able to do it! That's a great idea! 😊

How much was the cost of all of this?

Does a septic tank need pumped out more often if it didn't have a leech field?
@RedandAprilOff-Grid8 ай бұрын
A leech field is needed, or the liquids will all dump right next to the tank.

Question regarding the $5,000 cost…does that include equipment rental and permits/inspections? Just wanted to understand if the $5k is “all-in”. I watched both videos and must’ve missed where you gave a cost breakdown, so I apologize if I’m making you repeat info. Thanks so much for such a great and instructive video!

I thought there was a cost breakdown in the video somewhere, but I couldn't find it either, sorry about that!, Yes, $5,000 is the total cost we paid 1.5 year ago, and it includes the equipment rental, permit, and all materials. The cost does Not include the soil perk test. We rented a backhoe for a full month, and put half of the cost towards the house pad and footer, and the other half towards the septic. Thanks for watching!

@@RedandAprilOff-Grid really appreciate the quick and thorough response! Also helpful to understand timeline for the costs. Really well documented process.

What type of fabric you use?
@RedandAprilOff-Grid Жыл бұрын
It's trench wrap. It's like a thin landscape fabric that's the width of the trench, and it comes in 150 foot rolls.

I'm about 30 miles from Benson. I have my septic permits, but can't find anyone to install. I guess I'll do it myself. I've sourced the tank & infiltrators. And the gravel. I just need to rent a backhoe. Can you point me in the right direction or recommend a rental place?
@RedandAprilOff-Grid2 жыл бұрын
For our backhoe rental, we used Hertz in Tuscon, they were a lot cheaper than anyone here local. Yes, our son got a quote of $13,000 to have his done, and that was about a year ago. Best wishes! 😊🏜️

Lumnah Acres (New Hampshire) has just finished the leach field & septic, it is a very involved job. Red seems to be doing a really good job. Some of the rules are just a little different. You surely don't need sand with all that very fine soil (OK dust)
@RedandAprilOff-Grid3 жыл бұрын
It was a big job, but Red said he would rather install a septic system any day rather than the house footer he's working on now. 😄 It depends where you dig out here. Some areas have a lot of sand, and other parts of the land have a lot of clay. Thanks! 😊

There is definitely a lot of dust, but during the monsoon season this year, we felt like we were living in the jungle. There were vines growing on everything and it was really humid, but thankfully not terribly hot. 😊
