Q&A's : Q: What can I replace with the sharpies? A: Permanent markers will be fine ? Q: Can I use paper? A: Of course , except paper will get wrinkly , try card stock . Q: I don't have alcohol , what else can I use ? A: Nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol , water. You're welcome!✌️

I forgot to say that I did this at a July 4th party 3 years ago and I provided white T-shirts. Everyone was wowed because it is so much fun watching the pretty colors bleed. Thanks for sharing the canvas idea.

This is so awesome. I paint with watercolors all the time and I love them, but the way the alcohol reacts with the sharpie ink looks so cool. I really love it and I'm definitely going to try it.

I so love ur crafts. They are inspiring me to expand my mind and try different crafting ideas. I really love the painting that looks like it's done from crayons. Been wanting to do something like that without all the tedious work lol. Thanks for sharing this with me. The kids I do crafts with will love this idea. Well til next time. I think a lot of these would look better if you had a small spray bottle on hand. It would help the galaxy look more galaxy-ish, and it would help the tie dye spread out more. The good thing about a spray bottle, is that you can spray from a distance, and lightly coat the canvas without disturbing the sharpie much, and let the alcohol do it's thing, or you can spray up close, to push the sharpie out in a circular motion. I think it'd be fun to try :D

My only question is why do this instead of just buying some warercolors? A crayons set of 24 costs $5 and less colors cost even less. There are also no nasty fumes. But seriously are there any benefits?

Just watercolors alone would probably not produce the exact same effect (unless you're a pro). You can use the alcohol resist method with actual watercolor paintings, though. The Google images for "watercolor with alcohol" look pretty cool! Honestly, whether or not there are benefits to one over the other is based on personal preference. Some people prefer using pencils, pens, & markers instead of paint. Also, Sharpies tend to appear to be more bold & pigmented and produce a different texture than paint. I admit I don't like the smell of Sharpies (or rubbing alcohol), but using them in a well-ventilated area will help. Overall, this method is just fun & exciting (for me)!

Nuna fish you don't have to use sharpie that's just and brand. Dollar store markers work just as good also Bic mark it is far less expensive as well.

sam gregory Bic Mark It permanent markers work too. They're cheaper (if I could find my receipt I'd tell you what I spent, well, Alaska price anyway) and work just the same. I bought an assortment of 24 at Walmart. I haven't tried this with Sharpie brand permanent marker, so I don't know if they work better than Bic. I think it just needs to be permanent marker.

Peter Shonoda It might be that they are manufactured in a different country, and the have no inexpensive options for transporting them elsewhere. Try buying them in large quantities online. Even with shipping costs, you might end up spending less per pen that way.

I like the star/galaxy one best. There was more work done as to a desgign with random stars placed in a pleasanrt design. Some folks would have put too many starts or not arranged them in a pleasing manner. They are all cool, but that one shows your talent. Thanks for the inspiration! I have all the supplies, just need to get off my rear and do something.

Try using tulip fabric markers they have about 5 different types of brushes and r also allowed on shoes

You should do a name color design where you write or paint your name on a canvas and use sharpies or paint and color cool designs around it. I just thought of it while watching this. You could also us alcohol and put it around your name and it will all blur together to make it even better.
