Instead of starting from the bottom. Can you start from the top and work your way down? So that way all your boards are the same size. And when u get to the bottom board you rip it and it won’t be noticeable. Cuz most likely you’ll have a base molding. Sorry if this question sounds dumb.

Lowe's only 3 cuts for free rest is charged, same way at home depot, kid was just being nice telling you that is all and if you want a nice shiplap job don't use plywood jmo as a contractor
@JanetJenkins5 жыл бұрын
What would you use that is not actual shiplap, which is very expensive.
@stevenoglesby78435 жыл бұрын
Due to cost difference we decided to use this method over a 3/4 inch overlap board, after installation we felt like we did not get a true ship lap look but were ok with it due to the money saved. After painting it with a latex paint the plywood warped due to the water content of the paint. In the end we were so dissatisfied we ripped it out and went back with a ship lap board. You may want to prime with an oil base primmer before installation to avoid warping.

Would this be an issue in a 2 piece powder room? There is just a sink and a toilet. No shower or bath. Seems humidity would not be an issue in that environment.

ok.. so seeing that you've done both, what's your opinion on final product? Is there a visual difference to buying the legit T&G boards over ripping plywood like this? I don't mind paying the extra few bucks if the final product is worth it.
@JennaSue7 жыл бұрын
There is a difference in the seams, more noticeable up close. I personally wouldn't do T&G again because to me it isn't worth the extra cost and time, plus you have to deal with the knots, and I prefer a wider plank look. For a more authentic and substantial alternative, I've seen people use 1/2" or 3/4" MDF board cut into strips which I would be more inclined to do in the future. Hope this helps!
