You did a great job prepping and execution- the problem areas your highlighting I think it’s bc of the black color making it stand out more. I bet if you did it all white wouldn’t be noticeable. I have the same wrap around and debating to do this or tear it out all together. Great video thanks 🙏

What did you use to fill the screw holes left behind by the shower doors?
@thediygrunt

I ended up using all purpose Bondo putty to fill in the holes. However the normal Bondo is only water resistant not water proof, so I would not recommend it unless you intend to recoat the the panels with a new water proof finish like I was attempting to do in the video. There are some small kits on the market that are designed to patch holes in shower panels, they are typically around 20-30 dollars. I used the Bondo because I had it on hand and I knew once I applied my new finish to the panels, the Bondo would not be in direct water contact anymore. The Bondo product I should have used is the Fiberglass Resin, it is waterproof and its listed uses are tub, shower and sink repair. I have never used that particular Bondo product before so I can't say for sure how good it is.

What did you use to plug the holes from the door mount & how has that held up?

I think you might be a little critical on this product it stinks by design it's a super heavy duty paint that is meant to be super durable you have good tips on the respirator I just got done painting my bathtub and shower I'm not a painter by any means I had drips myself technique definitely helps I do agree they should give you more paint as far as the bubbles I believe that is due to to aggressively mixing which they specifically say not to do also your color choice black will probably show most imperfections also by design of the color let's face it all looks away the hell better than It used to 👍

I will admit I have been impressed with how well it is holding up I have seen no damage to it. I'm sure if I had more experience with the product I would learn some tips and tricks to improve the finished result. Personally I would not recommend the product for a DIYer or at least those with limited painting and epoxy experience. Its not a forgiving product, virtually no room for mistakes which does not lend to being DIY friendly. I did try to do a fair amount of research on how to use the product but after my experience with it those videos I found were not adequate. My biggest issue with using the product again is the smell. The respirator is an absolute necessity but getting the smell out of the house is difficult especially if the bathroom does not have a window which my bathroom did not.

I seen your comments below so I can respect that..Did you get a refund? I used this product and the coverage is bunk. The little woman actually used 2 kits to do just the tile surround so it was extra think on the walls. Was it extra durable, not hardly. I wouldn't waste my time on this product. It's been 2 weeks since the application and I can already see bare tile underneath. Let's see what the manufacture has to say about it, oddly, there is nothing about the warranty in the kit. Now I'm out about 300 dollars and still have to replace my tiles....short cuts aren't allowed in life people..

No I didn't bother complaining to the company. It was my choice to use the product and frankly I might have done things wrong in the process so I can't blame the product entirely. DIY projects is like a game in a way "You win some you lose some". I have been impressed with its durability so far, so no complaints there. But I think eventually I will just have to spend the money and redo the shower/tub by taking them out and doing a big makeover.

Here is something: Looks as if the original cultured marble shower surround has yellowed a lot over the years. I suspect that the fluorescent lighting over the decades did that. I would replace the fluorescent with an LED "put-in-place replacement tube that won't have UV radiation. Might be a moot point since you are refinishing but the LED tubes will save on energy.

LEDs are already in every light fixture in the house but I completely agree with swapping for the energy savings and the heat reductions since fluorescents and incandescent bulbs could literally heat your home in winter. If the cultured marble yellowed then it did so equally in all bathrooms and showers since there is no obvious color differences between them. Personally I don't think they yellowed I have seen this or very similar to this color in other homes over the years. This is simply a fairly popular color from the late 80s/early 90s when the house was designed and built.

@@thediygrunt Fluorescent lights do a lot of damage over time with the UV rays. This is why a lot of electronics, computer cases and the like are yellowed over time. The UV light reacts with the flame retardant chemicals in the plastic and turns yellow. When I was in the military - for a lot of years- excessive and I mean excessive over use of tobacco also resulted in a lot of yellowing of things, but that is another story. Yes, There was a time when ashtrays were on the desks, butt cans everywhere and people's mouths occupied by the cancer sticks.

@@thediygrunt Do be careful using LED illumination. The cheap ones have an annoying flicker that you can't see but the flicker does affect humans and animals can really notice it. Also, the source of illumination should not be in the line of sight. One of my biggest pet peeves besides two piece toilets.

Do not buy this product. I used it and it failed by the next day. it started peeling in 2 spots. I followed the instructions as it was written. I'm also a car painter and know how to properly prepare a surface before refinishing it.

I agree. I say at the end of the video that I do not recommend it. It was a horrible process and the final product was not worth it.
