Habu, very good work! I also use the old hand tools when I can. Once the axe head is fixed in a new handle, if you soak the joint between metal and wood in propylene glycol, the wood cells will expand as if it is water. The glycol is retained by the wood cells and will never get dry and shrink.

you can use ethylene glycol. same effect. both are used as antifreeze.

The problem with an arcing handle is you have grain run out, which means they will snap in half quite easily.

da war sie, meine Zeitlupe ^^ und finde immer noch du hättest eher was Richtung Schreiner etc. werden sollen... gibst dir mit dem Holz 100 mal mehr mühe als mit dem alten rostigen Stück. eine Gravur oder bissel mehr mit dem Kopf hättest du schon machen können. ich persönlich finde schade das die Arbeiten am Metall selbst, in so gut wie jedem Video, zu kurz geraten. ist natürlich weiterhin dir überlassen worauf du Bock hast. ;-) Mfg du weißt schon wer ^^

Just curious, I know that Baseball bats split when they are struck on the flat side of the grain. Will this handle hold up since the grain is perpendicular to the ax edge? Should the grain be in line with the edge?

Classy look! I have one question. I noticed that the grain pattern in the handle was interrupted in order to produce the curvaceous appearance. ;) Will that interruption produce a weaker handle as opposed to making a handle that follows the grain pattern but may have less curve? Cheers

His curve isn't that extreme in my far-less-than-expert opinion. I think the pencil line he originally drew would have started to be a bit extreme, however he actually lessened the curvature on his cut line. I don't think he would have problems, especially since small axes like that aren't meant to fell fully mature trees. They're meant more for trail utility like cutting branches and saplings, stripping bark, and splitting firewood (if a real splitting axe isn't available.) Especially with the edge he put on the blade, which would be destroyed by any kind of chopping hard enough to compromise that handle haha ^_^.
