Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I built one of these, and it worked perfectly for the August 21 eclipse. The best part about doing it your way (vs some of the other ways I've seen, like putting the filter in between a couple of UV lenses) is that I was able to EASILY and QUICKLY take it off of one lens, and put it on another lens that had a different filter size. The lens barrels are close enough in diameter that I can put this on every lens I own, so it's really versatile and convenient. Thanks for your time and instructions!

Adam, thank you very much! You were very helpful! I did a slight variation on your design for my camera and it works very well. I appreciate your time, talents and ideas to help all of us enjoy the eclipse!

Well done! One final recommendation. It may be wise to trim down the excess of your flat to reduce sail area in case of wind.

Thanks for the tutorial! Quick question: I've noticed manufacturers (such as Orion) stating that for an open truss telescope, you need a light shroud as well as the filter. Will any dark, thick material wrapped around the telescope work for this?

I Adam, i have a question, i did it almost the way you did it but i think i made a mistake, when I taped down the film down I did it over white regular sheet of paper but with the "naked" film facing the paper, not with the protection sandwich, are there chances that the film has been damage? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand what you did... If there is a what for you to get me a picture of what you have, that may help. Otherwise, I'd say that if you think you damaged the film, start again. It's not worth the risk to use damaged film.

Adam, I mean, I removed the protected paper and then I taped the film down on a paper sheet (the film touching directly the paper sheet not the protective paper) the same way you did it in the minute 4:35 but then i realised you still have the protrctive paper in that moment!. So I put the cardboard ring over that side and then turned it around to paste the other part in that other side. There is no chances to do it again soon because i had just a little square of baader film (15 x 14 cm) and the price of that was something like 30 dollars and i am in Chile! Amazon is not currently here but it seems that will be here real soon :) until that day i have to wait for someone to bring it as a favor, the baader film here in regular astronomic stores is even expensier.

Rodrigo Pastor Pensa - as long as the film isn’t damaged you’re probably fine. I kept the protective paper on to be extra careful; it wasn’t strictly necessary.

what if I don't have a hood for my lens

You can just slip it over the lens.
